Travel can be one of the most enjoyable things to do with your time. There’s a reason that the majority of peopel spend the year looking towards their holidays, vacations and breaks – whether that’s a city break, a beach holiday, a spa retreat, a hiking adventure or anything else. Of course, we’d all love to travel indefinitely, but for many of us, this doesn’t seem like a reasonable option. You can, however, meet in the middle. Rather than being a permanent nomad or only heading away once every year or so, you can plan a period of travel for the duration of three months, six months, a year or any other time period that suits your needs and preferences. Of course, this will take some planning and preparation, but it is possible. Here’s some information that can help you with this.

Choosing a Duration of Travel

How long can you go away for? The answer to this question will vary drastically from person to person. If you have dependents, such as disabled or elderly family members, or children who are in school, chances are, you can’t head away from home for long periods of time. Holidays and vacations – travel options where you can bring your dependents along or arrange short-term care for them while you’re away – can be the best options for you. If you are tied into a job that you really don’t want to leave, you may also find yourself limited to shorter trips, usually of a maximum of two weeks. If you’ve been working at the place for a long time, however, it could be worth asking for a sabbatical for a month or so. If you are happy to save and then leave your work, or you have work that you can genuinely engage with around the world, longer term travel could be an option for you.

Financial Commitments

Travel costs money and most people who travel long term are able to do so because they don’t have financial commitments at home. If you’re renting, for example, you could simply wait until the end of your tenancy and then travel from that point onwards. If you have financial commitments at home, however, like a mortgage, you will have to decide what you want to do in terms of longer term travel. Can you save enough to cover your mortgage while you’re away as well as your travel plans? Or would it be better to sell the property and ensure you’re bill free while you’re travelling? The answer to this will depend entirely on your personal finances.

Travel Companions

Who are you going to travel with? Some of us have partners, friends or family members who are in the same boat and would be happy to travel with us. Some of us don’t, but this doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t head away. Solo travel can be a great option too. You just need to practice basic safety and awareness while you’re away.

Saving Money

If you’re not going to work when you travel, it’s important that you save a good fund of money to head away with. Start saving well in advance. This will give you more time to build your money, even if you’re not sure where you’re heading or for how long yet. Contribute as much of your disposable income as possible into a savings account. Invest using lei code meaning, stocks, shares and more. Sell old belongings that you neither want nor need and contribute this money to your savings pot. Take on extra hours or freelance work. You’ll quickly see the amount you need to head away growing.

Planning

Once you’ve got savings, it’s time to start choosing some locations. Check the temperature and seasons of the places you intend to visit to travel at the best time year. Figure out the best route from one country to another, minimising travel and costs between one place and another. Create a schedule of experiences, sights you want to see, things you want to try and so much more. Look into accommodation. This is the really exciting part, as you’ll start to see your trip coming together. If you’re struggling with inspiration, take time to find some good travel blogs, Instagram pages, Pinterest boards and more. This will help you to find things you really want to do and incorporate them into your trip.

As you can see, there’s a lot that goes into planning and preparing for worldwide travel. There are so many different places to go and things to see, so hopefully, some of the information above will help you to get things in place.
