The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the travel industry as a whole and people across the world have had to put their travel plans on hold more than once. But now it looks like things are improving and soon, we will be able to start traveling again. However, things are going to look very different.

When you are in another country, you will need to make sure you understand what the current COVID guidelines are so you can follow them. In some cases, this may mean that the experience is different from what it normally would be. Make sure to do your research and weigh up whether it’s still worth going or if you should wait a while until restrictions are relaxed.

Actually getting into another country in the first place will also be different but people don’t always consider this. So, how will border control be different after the COVID-19 pandemic?

Potential Changes To Visas

Countries around the world are likely to rethink who they let into the country and why. Tourist visas are not likely to change as much because countries will want more people to visit and boost the economy. However, in difficult times, they are less likely to want people coming from abroad to work because they want jobs to go to locals who may have lost work during the pandemic. So, getting a work visa could be more difficult. It’s best to speak to an immigration lawyer about your visa before you go so you can make sure you’re up to date on the latest rules. The last thing you want is to be turned away because you have the wrong type of visa, so make sure you get it sorted ahead of time and keep up to date with changing regulations.

Proving Your COVID Status

Most places you visit will ask you to prove your COVID status before you are allowed to travel. This may involve providing proof of a negative test and it could also mean proving that you have been vaccinated. Sorting out these documents can take time and if you need to provide a negative test, you’ll need to sort this out privately. Make sure you get the timing right so the test comes back in time for your trip but it is still recent enough.

Navigating Security

Navigating security in the airport is always a bit of a nightmare and although some airports have managed to cut the wait times to less than a minute, you can expect them to increase again during the pandemic. Airports are busy places and they will have to adhere to social distancing guidelines, which means that queues will move slower. They are also likely to be running with a reduced team at the minute, which also slows things down. So, when you are planning your trip, make sure you leave extra time to account for these delays.

These are the main differences you can expect to see at border control during the COVID-19 pandemic.
