Twitter Roasts Michael Vaughan For Saying “India Have Been Saved By The Weather” In WTC Final

The cricket lovers were quite excited as the final match of the World Test Championship was scheduled to be played between India and New Zealand at Southampton beginning from June 18 (yesterday) but all the excitement was spoiled as the first day’s play was abandoned due to rain.

Though the International Cricket Council (ICC) has kept a reserve day in order to deal with such scenario but it can’t be denied that fans have been left pretty upset after no cricketing action took place on the cricket field.

Michael Vaughan, the former Indian cricketer who is known for posting tweets against the Indian cricket team, has once again angered the Indians. Vaughan has already stated that he wants to see New Zealand defeating India in the WTC final in one of his earlier tweets and now when rains have spoiled the game, the former England skipper tweets that the weather has saved team India.

Michael Vaughan’s tweet read, “I see India have been saved by the weather…. #WorldTestChampionship”.

This was more than enough for the Indian fans to bear and they trolled the former English cricketer left and right. Here are some of the selected reactions:

Many former cricketers and cricketing experts are of the opinion that New Zealand has a better chance of winning the WTC final because just before the WTC final, it played a two-match test series against England and won it by 1-0 as well.

There is no denying the fact that the Kiwi players must have got accustomed to the English conditions in a better manner than the Indian cricketers but we should not forget that every match is a new match and the Indian squad is also high on confidence as it will be entering the finals after defeating Australia in their own backyard and subsequently, they defeated England in India.

What do you think of Michael Vaughan’s tweet? Which team do you feel will win the WTC final?

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough! JaiSai – A Story Of Sheer Grit And Josh

A para-athlete, a content creator, and a hero who inspires – Meet JaiSai, the multi-talented, micro-influencer from Karnataka making waves on the Josh app.

Having lived with paraplegia for 23 years of his life, Sai could have chosen an accepted life of physical challenge and world-weariness. And many of us would have probably believed in this status quo and not ventured boldly into the world. But Sai decided that this would not be the road he would take.

Knowing that his chances at a normal life would be razor-thin, he chose to carve a path for himself while not accepting defeat. Taking inspiration from other international para-athletes like Malathi K Holla, who also mentored him to become a Boccia (a precision ball sport) para-athlete, Sai was determined to fulfill his ambition of being a para-athlete and not let a life of disability decide his destiny.

He rose to become a state-level para-athlete winning many accolades and is recognized for his spirit and grit in the para-athletic world. Yet, Sai being Sai, decided to not just rest on his laurels. He went ahead to fulfill his passion for singing and acting by creating content that inspires and entertains, thus, bringing him over 155,000 followers on Josh – the made-in-India, short-video app and cementing him as an influencer whose artistic facets complement his athletic talents.

Though Saicalls himself an introvert, in a free-wheeling interview says, “I was treated differently because of my disability, but on Josh, my fans support and encourage my love for content creation”.

He also mentions that sports and acting or singing are his separate talents and one does not affect the other much, which is an inspiring perspective for someone who has to overcome physical challenges regularly.

He also says that Josh has helped him polish his skills as a video creator, “I work on every aspect from scripting the video to deciding the lighting and camera angles for different shots. It’s an entire process”.

So much so, this confidence has spurred him to act in two films namely, “PreetiyaKanasu”(A short Kannada film) and “Naapaathanayanangal”(A short Tamil movie)!

With short video content growing as a trend among the youth of this country, Sai smartly utilized his talent and ambition to establish himself as a content creator on Josh–the leading Indian short-video app on the Play store with over 100 million downloads. Currently, Josh is the fastest growing and most engaged short-video app in India with 100+ million Monthly Active Users, 48+ million Daily Active Users, and 2+ billion video plays per day.

Sai’s will to succeed despite limitations and a platform that can give wings to a dreamer, inspire the rest of us a chance to dare and do things differently.

While Josh represents a confluence of India’s top 200+ best creators, the 5 biggest music labels, 15+ million UGC creators, best-in-class content creation tools, the hottest entertainment formats, and formidable user demographics, it allows us to allow ourselves to bring out the inner artist to the forefront.

The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has been quite harsh on us as it has taken lives of many people including few of those who made the country proud with their accomplishments. One such person is the legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh who was given the nickname of The Flying Sikh as he used to run very fast.

The 91 years old legend took his last breath on Friday in the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, where the doctors were treating him for the post-COVID complications. The four time Asian gold medalist who had been awarded with Padma Shri by the Indian government for his immense contribution towards the Indian sports tested COVID-19 positive on May 19 and he was admitted into a private hospital in Mohali on May 24 because of COVID pneumonia. However, the destiny had other plans and things turned ugly after Milkha Singh developed complications as his oxygen levels went down and he also had fever.

A statement was issued by Milkha Singh’s family after the legendary sprinter bid good bye to the world in which they informed people of this unfortunate happening. This is certainly a very difficult time for Milkha Singh’s family as his son and three daughters lost both their parents just within 5 days. Earlier Milkha Singh’s wife Nirmal Kaur (85) took her last breath on Sunday and the reason behind her departure was also COVID-19.

Jugaads Every College Go-er Has Done To Make It Through College Life

If you’ve been to college, you most definitely have come across the term “Jugaad”. This famous term has saved each one of us from a pickle and has gotten us creative in overcoming any problem. Right from getting done with that assignment one night before the submission to winging every presentation after running in 5 minutes late on the D-day. We have all been caught up in situations like these, haven’t we?

Here are a few classic jugaads that have saved the day, quite literally and definitely been the highlight of our college lives. We wouldn’t have been able to make it through an exam without them.

Copying in exams

via GIPHY

Be it chits hidden in places one couldn’t have imagined, to peeping in your neighbour’s paper to find the answer, copying answers in an exam becomes inevitable at some point. Did anyone realise how much strategy comes into play here?

Writing Looong Answers

via GIPHY

We’ve all done this, haven’t we? Wrote extremely long answers to mask our knowledge of the question and trick the teacher into thinking we know it! The number of supplements = how much we know. The more, the better!

Rote Learning our way through the night

via GIPHY

In the last 12 hours before the paper, we have all resorted to the only way it could be possible to pass the exam and that is Rote-learning. You may not understand what you are studying but you definitely know how to answer that 10 marker without even comprehending what you write!

Solving previous years papers instead of the syllabus

via GIPHY

Who hasn’t sat with the previous year’s papers beforehand to check what type of questions are going to be asked in the exam and to check how much we already know?

via GIPHY

And that’s it! We’ve made it through all examinations and graduated with our college degrees but what now? Jugaad may have gotten us through college but is it enough in real life? You need substance also if you’ve to do really well and get good jobs. And in today’s fast evolving world, tech and business models change so fast. You need to learn the relevant skills and hence do relevant post grad degrees. And which is the best way to do it?

Girl Says Her Parents Promised Rs 30 Lacs Wedding Budget But Now Giving Rs 14 Lacs, Netizens React

Marriages are said to be made in heaven but the knots are tied on the Earth and everyone has his own way of celebrating the occasion. While some people like to keep it simple and they get married in court or in a small ceremony in the presence of their close relatives and friends, there are many who like to make this occasion big by spending a huge amount on their grand wedding.

Representational Image

Recently, a woman who is engaged to the man whom she loves took to Reddit anonymously and narrated how she was cheated by her parents on the last minute as earlier they promised her to spend a whopping amount on her marriage but then they broke the promise. She told that her parents earn pretty good ($450K annually) and her father gave her a budget of $40K for her marriage but her own budget for her marriage was lower than this as it was $25K.

However, it is her mother who is constantly trying to reduce her budget and as per the girl, her mother is known for breaking her promises when it is about money. Her mother asks her to have a cheap wedding and take some amount of money as a gift from her which the girl has refused after discussing with her fiancé.

Representational Image

Her mother talked to her friends and enquired them about the marriages of their kids and all of them spent more than $25K and the girl’s parents told her that they could spend this much easily. But a little later, her parents reduced the budget to $20K and if this was not enough, the girl’s mother asked her to hire the same vendors who were hired by her friends for the weddings of their kids.

The girl says that she would not have been unhappy if her parents had given her budget of $20K in the beginning but her mother has already spent $3K on her wedding dress and veil because of which she is left with only $17K.

Representational Image

The girl is also not happy with the fact that her parents are reducing her marriage budget on one hand but on the other, they have bought a car for her younger brother who is in junior year of college and they are also spending a good amount on the baseball tickets as well as dinners.

The girl has given the option of eloping with her fiancé to her mother rather than working on her marriage plans in this budget but her mother has refused for that as well. Then she asks her mother to plan the wedding herself as she is being quite picky but the mother is not ready for it too. To conclude, the girl writes that she just wants to tie the knot with the guy she loves rather than arguing with her parents over the budget of her marriage.

Representational Image

Here is what the bride-to-be wrote:

AITA for wanting to elope after my parents cut my wedding budget in half? from AmItheAsshole

The redditors also expressed their opinion on this matter, while some express their sympathy as her parents cheated her on the last moment, there were few who slammed her for wanting to spend so much money on just one event of her life.

Andhra Pradesh Govt Compulsorily Makes Colleges English Medium, Starts Debate On Twitter

There are not many jobs as of now as the country has already faced two waves of the coronavirus pandemic and the economy doesn’t seem to be in a good shape. However, things are slowly getting back to normal and hopefully jobs will also get generated in few months which will provide a sigh of relief to the unemployed people.

Representational Image

When we talk about the jobs, it is a known fact that if a person has a good knowledge of English language and he is able to understand and speak English fluently, his chances of getting the job increases manifold. This is not only the case in India as a report released by the Cambridge University in 2016 has indicated that speaking in English is one of the top three main skills that the employers look in their prospect employees and it is something which has been noticed all over the world.

If that was not enough to make you believe this point, the India Skills reports of 2019 also keeps English speaking as one of the three top skills that the Indian employers look in the candidates. The other two skills which the Indian employers want to see in the candidates are quick ability of learning and adaptability.

Representational Image

Now the Andhra Pradesh government has taken a step to increase the skills of students of their colleges as they have issued an order as per which all the undergraduate degree colleges whether government or private have to be made English medium and this order has to be implemented by the academic year of 2021-22.

This is certainly a big decision and will highly affect the education system of Andhra Pradesh as nearly 2.62 lakh students have taken admission in the colleges of AP and out of this, a huge number of 65K approx. students have taken admission in colleges which are Telugu medium.

Twitterati is divided on this decision; while some people have praised it as they feel that it will increase the chances of getting good jobs for the youngsters, a number of others have slammed the decision as they feel that it is an insult to the mother tongue.
