Michael Vaughan Reacts To Tim Paine’s Sledging, “His Language & Sledging Was Back To Old Days”
The Australian cricket team has always been famous for sledging and getting under the skin of the opposition but after the sandpaper gate scandal, there was a surprising change in their behaviour. Due to the sandpaper gate scandal, the then skipper Steve Smith was removed from captaincy and he was also banned from playing cricket for a year so Tim Paine was given the responsibility of taking out the team from the critical situation.
It was quite visible that Tim Paine along with head coach Justin Langer ensured that his team is not as aggressive as the earlier Aussie teams and though friendly banter or chat with the opposition players was fine, sledging and abusive language had no place in this new Australian team.
However on the fifth and final day of the Sydney test match, the limits were crossed and the Australians, especially Tim Paine, engaged in good amount of sledging with the Indian batsmen, especially Ravichandran Ashwin. There is no doubt that the Aussies were the favourites to win this test match as at the start of the fifth day, the Indian team had to score 407 runs to win the match which seemed to be a tough task as India had already lost both its openers while Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja were injured. But the Indian squad was in no mood to give up and despite facing one of the best bowling attacks, the Indian batsmen ensured that they saved the test match and ended it in a draw.
While Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant batted well and scored 77 and 97 respectively, Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari displayed tremendous patience and showed the world how a test match is saved as they both faced 259 deliveries but stayed till the end despite being injured.
The Aussie skipper got frustrated and started sledging the Indian batsmen and he also used the word, di**head for Ravichandran Ashwin. The former England cricketer Michael Vaughan who is known for expressing his opinion on every matter related to cricket slammed Tim Paine, called his behaviour very poor and also said that sledging was back to the old days.
Michael Vaughan tweeted, “Let’s be honest the captain of Australia since sandpaper gate has led this team with great distinction, attitude & never once has he crossed the line of negativity in my eyes, but today his language behind the stumps & sledging today was back to the old days !! Very, very poor!!”

Tim Paine has apologized for his behaviour in a press conference; he says that he is a human and wants to apologize for the mistakes that have been made by him. He has also accepted that his leadership was not good enough and the pressure affected him as well as his performance.
The fourth test will start on 15th Jan in Gabba, Brisbane, so let’s just keep our fingers crossed for India’s victory!
