Sheldon Jackson Slams Selectors, “They Said We’re Not Picking Anyone Above 30, Is There A Law?”

There is no doubt that donning the blue jersey and playing for the country is a dream which every cricketer sees with open eyes but very few among the thousands are actually able to turn their dream into reality. The basic criteria for making an entry into the Indian team is to perform well at the domestic level as well as in the IPL but some players don’t get call for the national duty even after performing very well in the domestic circuits.

Sheldon Jackson, the 35 years old Indian wicketkeeper-batter who plays for Saurashtra in the domestic cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL is one of those cricketers who are not getting selected for the national team despite performing wonderfully in the domestic circuits.

Though Sheldon Jackson wasn’t able to make any impact in the IPL yet if we look at his domestic performance, he has scored 5947 runs in the 79 matches and will touch the 10k mark pretty soon across all the formats. He is second on the list of the batsmen who scored the most number of centuries (19) for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy, the first being Cheteshwar Pujara with 21 centuries.

Recently in an interview, Sheldon Jackson talks about the issue of not getting selected in the Indian team. He says that there has been no communication regarding as to why he is not selected but when he has enquired what he needs to do more in order to get selected, he is told that he is old now as they are not taking anyone in the team who is above 30 yrs of age. The cricketer adds that despite telling him they are not selecting anyone above 30, a 32-33 years old player got selected after a year or so. He further says that he has been quite vocal in this regard and asks why they don’t come up with a law which makes it clear that a player won’t get selected once he crosses 30, 35 or 40.

After the former skipper MS Dhoni took retirement in the year 2014 from test matches, Rishabh Pant, Wriddhiman Saha and Dinesh Karthik were used by the selectors on a rotation basis. While Rishabh Pant has almost confirmed his place on the basis of his wonderful performances, the second choice wicketkeeper for India in the current scenario is 28 years old KS Bharat who averages 36.65 at domestic level. Both KS Bharat and Sheldon Jackson have played the same number of matches at the domestic level but the latter averages around 50 which is pretty higher than the average of Bharat.

As far as Wriddhiman Saha is concerned, he has been told by the selectors that he won’t be considered for the future. On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik has made a comeback after three years but in the shortest format because of his some superb performances in the IPL.

Sheldon Jackson has made it clear in the interview that he hasn’t lost hope and the more he is snubbed, the more he gets determined to work hard and prove himself that there is still hunger left in him.

All the best, Sheldon Jackson!

Someone Digs Out Shah Rukh’s 1989 Film “Umeed” & Twitter Finds It Similar To “Panchayat”

The digital platforms have given us a plethora of choices for entertainment as many web series and shows are getting aired on various OTTs and some of them are really incredible. One such web series is Panchayat which stars Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Chandan Roy, Faisal Malik, etc. in important roles. In the series, an engineering graduate joins as a Panchayat secretary in a village Phulera because he doesn’t get any other good job and decides to prepare of CAT examination. The story is all about his struggles with the village life and how he and other villagers handle the problems faced by them.

After the first season was super hit, viewers were waiting for the second season but it got delayed due to COVID-19 and it got released recently. The episodes of the second season also left audiences awestruck and they were full praises for the actors and the makers.

As Panchayat is a story of a village, many fans of Shah Rukh Khan tried to compare it with SRK’s “Swades” which was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. In this movie, SRK played the character of Mohan Bhargav, a NASA scientist who visited a small village in India but chose never to return and worked for the welfare of the village. In fact in a recent interview when Jitendra Kumar was asked who he thinks would have done the role of Panchayat secretary if the web series had been made in 1990s, the actor said that Shah Rukh Khan would have been the obvious choice.

Another Twitter user reacted to the above tweet and talked about a movie “Umeed” in which SRK played the character of a banker who was transferred to a small village where nobody else wanted to go.

The Twitter user wrote, “He has done TV serial called Umeed in which SRK character was Banker and was situated in a village which is not a developed ones. Very striking similarities with Panchayat with only difference is that Jeetu Bhaiya character is a Sachiv”

Another Twitter user gave little details about Umeed:

As Umeed is of just 53 minutes duration, I am going to watch it now, what about you?

Salman Butt Slams Pakistan Team Management, Raises Questions On Their Direction & Strategy

The Pakistani cricket team will look forward to clean sweep the 3-match ODI series against West Indies by winning the third and the final ODI of the series which will be played today at Multan Cricket Stadium. Pakistan has already taken an invincible lead of 2-0 in the series and despite the fact that it won the 2nd ODI by a huge margin of 120 runs, one former Pak cricketer who has also led the Pakistani team in his playing days was pretty unhappy with the manner in which the squad played the match.

We are talking about Salman Butt who was upset with the Pakistani team; he not only raised questions on their strategy but also called them directionless. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Salman Butt stated that Pakistan can solve some of their issues on their own. He said that in the first ODI, Khusdil Shah played the role of a finisher in a good style and brought out the team from difficulty, he not only remained unbeaten but also ensured that the team won the match.

Salman Butt further said that despite playing so well in the first ODI, Khusdil Shah was sent to bat after Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan when Pakistan was facing problems. Raising questions on the thinking of the Pakistani team management and their plans, he asked whether they don’t know that Khusdil Shah is a batter who has a wonderful track record in domestic cricket and they are sending him after bowling all-rounders.

Salman Butt is of the opinion that though Khusdil Shah finished the first ODI for Pak when it was chasing 306 by scoring 41 runs in 23 balls, this doesn’t mean that he should be given only 4-5 overs to play. The former Pak skipper went on to say that Khusdil should be given more overs so that he can play big innings.

Salman Butt also questioned the selection of Mohammad Harris who replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed in the squad. The former Pak cricketer stated that if Mohammad Harris replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed, why he is not playing as a wicket-keeper batsman. He further stated that if the team needs a middle-order batsman, Shan Masoon or Kamran Ghulan should be inducted in the team instead of Mohammad Harris.

Salman Butt categorically said that West Indies is not giving any challenge to the Pak cricket team because it is facing many problems of its own. He concluded by questioning the direction in which the Pak squad is going and what their strategy is.

What is your take on the statements made by Salman Butt? Do you agree with him?

Benny Howell Indirectly Vents His Anger At Punjab Kings For Not Playing Him In IPL 2022

The Indian Premier League is certainly one of the biggest sports events of the world and what makes it more popular is the fact that big names of the world cricket come to play in it and entertain cricket lovers. However as per the rules of the IPL, only four foreign players can be included in the playing XI and in the process of forming a right combination, many times some foreign players don’t even get the chance to play a single match in the whole tournament.

Something of this sort happened with the England cricketer Benny Howell who was bought by Punjab Kings for a price of Rs. 40 lakhs in the mega-auctions of the IPL 2022 but he was benched for the whole season and didn’t even get a chance to make his debut in the league. What makes it a little surprising is the fact that Benny has a wonderful track record when it comes to T20 cricket as he has played 162 T20Is in which he has scored more than 2000 runs at an avg of 22.72. His strike rate of 130.50 is also pretty good; he has scored 6 fifties till now and he is a medium pacer as well. As a bowler also, Benny Howell could have been of a great help as he has taken 167 wickets in his career with 5/18 being his best.

Benny Howell must have been quite upset with not getting a chance to play in the whole tournament and recently he took a dig at the franchise when it posted a tweet asking fans to tell their pick from the overseas players.

In response, Benny Howell tweeted, “Just remember, I provided plenty of hydration for the lads and never ran out of towels”.

PBKS didn’t have a good season in the IPL 2022 as it won 7 out of 14 matches and was not able to make it to the play-offs. Though the Punjab franchise has been associated with the IPL since the inaugural edition (2008), it hasn’t won a single IPL title till date. Let’s see whether Benny Howell will get a chance to play in the IPL 2023 and will he play an important role in making his team win its first title!

Kapil Dev Reacts To Umran Malik’s Call For Team India, Gives Suggestions To Cement His Place

Umran Malik, the sensational pacer from Jammu who represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2022 has certainly grabbed everybody’s attention because of his fiery bowling which has also helped him in getting the national call in the ongoing 5-match T20I series against South Africa. Though he didn’t play in the first match of the series, his fans are quite sure that he will definitely get a chance to play in this series.

Umran Malik bowled at the speed of around 150km/hr in the IPL 2022 and the second fastest delivery of the tournament (156.9 km/h) is also registered in his name, the pacer took 22 wickets but his economy rate is a matter of concern for the team management.

Recently, the former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev talked about Umran Malik on a YouTube channel. He states that he is happy with Umran Malik’s selection but it will be quite early to say anything about him and he should be given minimum 2-3 years at the international level.

Kapil Dev adds that many times we praise a player highly but just after one year, he gets disappeared despite the fact that there is no dearth of talent. Kapil Dev further says that he is sure Umran Malik doesn’t lack anything but he needs to stay in a good environment and keep on doing the hard work. Kapil also emphasizes on the need of developing a good mindset as well as talking to good bowlers and watching footages of their bowling.

Kapil Dev under whose leadership India won the first ODI World Cup in 1983 goes on to say that he has seen bowlers who bowl fast but they are not able to take wickets, however the good thing about Umran Malik is that he does both, bowls fast and takes wickets too and this may be the reason because of which the 22 years old player has got a call for the national duty so early. According to Kapil Dev, the IPL has certainly played an important role in opening the doors of the national team for young players but they need to get 2-3 years at international level.

Kapil Dev also expresses concerns regarding the economy rate of Umran Malik and states that his economy rate should be around 6-7, not 9 especially if he is bowling around 150km/h. The former Indian skipper adds that the youngster needs to improve, try different variety of balls and make attempts to read the mind of the batter as well but all this will take time and his economy rate will definitely come down.

Umran Malik should listen to Kapil Dev’s words of wisdom and follow his suggestions to have a great cricketing career!

Babar Azam’s Illegal Fielding In PakVsWI Cost The Whole Team, Umpire Gave This Punishment

Babar Azam, the Pakistani cricket team skipper, is undoubtedly one of the best batters of the present times and currently he is in sublime form but he made headlines for all the wrong reasons after he broke a rule of the game in the second match of the 3-match series against West Indies.

Pakistan has taken an invincible lead of 2-0 in the 3-match ODI series after defeating West Indies in the second ODI which was played yesterday at Multan. However, this match will also be remembered for a mistake which was committed by the Pak captain and because of which the visitors were awarded with 5 runs.

In the 29th over of the WI innings, Babar Azam was seen with one of the wicket-keeping gloves of Mohammed Rizwan and used it to collect the ball. This was considered as illegal by the on-field umpire and five runs were added in the total of West Indies.

As per the Law 28.1, “No fielder other than the wicket-keeper shall be permitted to wear gloves or external leg guards. In addition, protection for the hand or fingers may be worn only with the consent of the umpires.”

As far as the match is concerned, the hosts won the toss and they chose to bat first. Pakistan put up a good total of 275/8 runs on the score board with the help of brilliant knocks of Imam-ul-Haq (72 runs, 72 balls, 6 fours) and Babar Azam (77 runs, 93 balls, 5 fours & 1 six). The West Indian batting collapsed completely against the Pakistani bowlers as they managed to score only 155/10 runs in 32.2 overs and lost the match by 120 runs. Mohammad Nawaz was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan as he took 4 wickets in his 10 overs and gave away only 19 runs.

The third ODI will be played tomorrow at the same venue and while Pakistan will try its level best to clean sweep the series, West Indies will certainly wish to end the series with a win and save some respect.
