MSK Prasad On Criticism That He Faced As Chief Selector, “Our Culture Is Hero Worship Culture”

One of the most difficult jobs in India is of the chief selector of the Indian cricket team because cricket being one of the most popular sports, every cricket fan has his own opinion which is absolutely correct as per him.

MSK Prasad, the former chief selector of team India, has now decided to open up on different issues that he faced during his tenure as the chief of the selection committee. Many times it has been said as to how MSK Prasad can take correct decision when he himself has played only 6 test matches and 17 ODIs. He has now answered this question while giving an interview to FanCode.

MSK Prasad says that in India, hero worship culture is being followed and people think that a cricketer who has played many games is only the one who knows everything about cricket; however, it is not so. He further adds that the selection committee is more about managing skills of a person as every field has different requirements.

He talks about a player who played more than 100 test matches in his career but was a big failure as a chairman of the selectors. However, he neither took the name of the cricketer nor revealed the country to which he belonged. MSK Prasad also gave the example of Sachin Tendulkar’s coach Ramakant Achrekar as he didn’t even play a single first-class game but went on to give the God of Cricket to India. MSK further said that every field demands different skills; people work hard and make efforts accordingly.

A number of controversies have erupted during the tenure of MSK Prasad, especially the one related to Ambati Rayudu not getting selected for the World Cup 2019 and the one in which Farokh Engineer stated that one of the selectors served tea to Anushka Sharma who is the wife of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Do you agree with MSK Prasad that hero worship culture is followed in our country? Let us know your opinion in this connection.

Rohit Sharma Responds To Gautam Gambhir Calling Him The World’s Best White Ball Cricketer

The Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma who is passing his lockdown time mainly by engaging in Instagram live sessions with other cricketers celebrated his 33rd birthday recently. However, he himself was not very happy as during that time only, we lost two precious gems of India – Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor, the two actors who entertained us for years with their amazing acting skills and impeccable performances.

But his fans, friends and followers did try to make him happy on his birthday by sending lovely wishes. The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir who has now entered politics also sent a birthday wish to the Hitman along with a compliment as Gauti termed Rohit as the best white ball cricketer of the world.

This is what Gautam Gambhir tweeted, “Happy Birthday to the best white ball cricketer in the world @ImRo45! Have a great year ahead!!”

When Rohit Sharma started thanking everyone on May 1, he noticed this lovely tweet of Gautam Gambhir and chose to say nothing on the compliment but he did praise the former Indian cricketer for the work that he is doing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Rohit Sharma tweeted, “Don’t know about that Gauti bhai. But loving your work”.

Gautam Gambhir has not only donated his two years salary to the PM-CARES fund but he also gave Rs. 1 crore to Delhi government for buying necessary equipments needed in the treatment of the COVID-19 positive patients. He also carried out the last rites of a house help as she was a part of his family and due to lockdown, it was impossible to take the body to her native.

Coming at the compliment given to Rohit by Gambhir, there is no denying the fact that Hitman is certainly a very successful batman in the world cricket, especially in ODIs, after he started opening the innings since 2013. He is the only batsman who has three double hundreds in his name and has also scored four centuries in T20 internationals.

Do you agree with Gautam Gambhir that Rohit Sharma is the best white ball cricketer? Let us know your views.

There was a lot of buzz when the Indian government announced that some old shows of the Indian television including Ramayan will be re-run as the whole country is under lockdown and it will help the citizens in passing their time at home.

However, nobody expected the type of response that Ramayan got as it has become the most watched entertainment show of the world by receiving the viewership of 77 million on the night of 16th April, 2020. Uttar Ramayan was also loved by the audiences as it tells what happened in the lives of Ram and Sita after they returned to Ayodhya post Vanvaas.

Many times Uttar Ramayan made people emotional as the separation of Ram and Sita was heart-wrenching and the performances of the actors were so impeccable that people could feel their pain. However, the limelight was stolen by the kids of Ram and Sita – Luv and Kush, especially when they started singing Ramayan written by their Guru Valmiki.

The finale episode of Uttar Ramayan was telecasted last night and it won’t be incorrect to say that only a heartless person would not have cried after watching it, particularly when while singing, Kush and Luv tell Ram that they are his sons and the scene in which Mata Sita departs with the Mother Earth.

While the youngsters enjoyed watching the show first time, many people relived their past by watching it again. During the re-run many times, characters like Vibhishana, Kumbhkarna, etc. also trended on the micro-blogging site Twitter which clearly explains that this show had a great impact on audiences.

Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan was first telecasted in 1987 and at that time also it was loved by viewers and this time again, people have showered their love and appreciation with open heart. Irrfan’s last movie was “Angrezi Medium” that could not make it to the theatres as the cinema halls have been shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic and eventually, it has been released on Disney Hotstar.

After the sudden departure of Irrfan, the whole nation including celebrities from the politics and sports world, television and movie industry, fans and general public mourned the unfortunate happening A very famous writer Paulo Coehlo also paid tribute to the awesome Indian actor and for this purpose, the author used a quote from the Hindu religious book, Bhagvad Gita. Paulo Coehlo made a tweet which read,

“A star joins other stars in the sky. Thank you for everything, Irrfan Khan

‘D*ath is as sure for that which is born, as birth is for that which is de*d. Therefore grieve not for what is inevitable.’

― Bhagavad Gita”

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie who worked with Irrfan Khan in the movie “A Mighty Heart” (2007) which was based on the story of Daniel Pearl, a journalist who lost his life in Pakistan in 2002, also expressed her sorrow on the unfortunate event. “The Office” star Mindy Kaling was also heartbroken after hearing this news and she wrote on Instagram that Irrfan had once told her they would collaborate on something and she called it an honour for herself.

I’m devastated by the news that the legend, Irrfan Khan, passed away at the age of 53. He was my favorite actor. Irrfan’s performances were defined by his subtlety and sensitivity, he could do more with silence and many actors could do with a two page Sorkin monologue. You watched him onscreen and thought “I know that person!” in any role he played, even if he was being chased around Europe in a Da Vinci Code movie with @tomhanks. He once wrote me to see if we could collaborate on something, and it remains the greatest honor of my career. If you aren’t familiar with his work, please watch Mira Nair’s The Namesake, or Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox. You will become a lifelong fan, I promise. I feel robbed of his future performances. My heart goes out to his family.

Colin Trevorrow, the director of “Jurassic Park” also remembered the “Haasil” actor and called him a thoughtful person. His tweet read, “Deeply sad to have lost #IrrfanKhan. A thoughtful man who found beauty in the world around him, even in pain. In our last correspondence, he asked me to remember ‘the wonderful aspects of our existence’ in the darkest of days. Here he is, laughing.”

Kal Penn who worked with Irrfan in “The Namesake” tweeted, “Irrfan’s art and humanity will be badly missed. Never seen someone use the beats of silence so beautifully to convey so much about who we are. Sending love to Sutapa and the family.”

Irrfan Khan was also remembered by Academy and Golden Globes as they shared an image of Irrfan to pay tribute to him.

Check out The Academy’s tweet:

Here’s the post made by Golden Globes:

Irrfan will surely be missed by his fans and admirers but it’s also true that he will live in our hearts forever!

Arun Govil Reacts To Ramayan Beating Game Of Thrones & The Big Bang Theory’s Viewership

The Ramayan re-run has created a history by breaking all the records of viewership as the episode which was aired on 16th April 2020 received 77 million views.

What makes it more noteworthy is the fact that not even the American shows were able to garner so much viewership; for example, the highest viewership that was received by the very popular television series Game of Thrones was 17.4 million while it was 18 million in case of The Big Bang Theory.

When actor Arun Govil who played the character of Lord Ram in the serial was asked how he feels seeing the super success of the show, he smiled and said that he feels good just like everyone as Ramayan is now the best show of the world as far as popularity and TRP ratings are concerned. He further added that he is happy for all the people who were connected with Ramayan and it is certainly a huge thing to happen.

The actress Deepika Chikhlia who portrayed the character of Sita in the show was also happy seeing that the show has recorded the highest viewership. She was happier because of the fact that Ramayan surpassed Game of Thrones as she was herself a big fan of the American show. She feels that the millennial are watching the show because the people of her generation must have watched it earlier and experienced its magic.

The Indian government decided to re-run the popular shows of the Indian television, such as Ramayan, Mahabharat, Circus, Dekh Bhai Dekh, etc. after many citizens demanded to re-telecast them since everyone was forced to remain inside the house due to the lockdown which has been imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The number of coronavirus infected patients in India is around 40K while the number of lives lost is 1301. If we talk about the whole world, around 34 lakhs is the number of COVID-19 positive patients whereas more than 2.40 lakh people have lost their lives.

Ramayan and Uttar Ramayan have got over now and hopefully they must have taught many valuable lessons of life to the viewers.

Irrfan Khan Was So Excited For His 3-Minute Role In First Film That He Made His Costume Himself

Irrfan Khan was one of the most talented actors we have ever seen on the big screen. The “Maqbool” star played a variety of roles in his lifetime and he may have said goodbye to this world but he will always live in our hearts through his films.

There was a time in Irrfan’s life when he wanted to quit acting as he was not getting roles in movies. He worked in many TV shows but his ultimate aim was to spread his charisma on the silver screen but he was not getting any roles in flicks despite the fact that everyone was appreciating him for his work on TV. In an old interview given to Abish Mathew, Irrfan talked about the time when he got a role in “Karamati Coat” and how happy he was after getting the opportunity.

Irrfan revealed that he thought of it as a big break and he was filled with zeal and enthusiasm so much that he decided the colour of his costume and also designed it. Nevertheless, what was funny about the role was that he walked for one and a half minute during the three minutes of his appearance in “Karamati Coat”.

Irrfan Khan’s last movie was “Angrezi Medium” which was released on a digital platform as the cinema halls have been closed due to the lockdown which has been imposed by the Indian government on account of the coronavirus pandemic. While people were not able to believe the news of Irrfan’s departure which took place on 29th April 2020, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor also took his last breath on the next day, i.e., 30th April 2020.

This is certainly a very tough phase not just for the families of both the actors but for Bollywood and their fans as well.

Rishi Kapoor In His Last Phone Call With Kunal Kohli Said, “Come Back & Prove Everybody Wrong”

The veteran actor and one of the most loved romantic heroes of all times, Rishi Kapoor departed from this world a couple of days ago but the fans are still not able to believe that he is not with us now. The “Mulk” star was a very lively person and he used to rub his energy on everyone around him ensuring that all and sundry have a smile on their faces.

Rishi Kapoor debuted as a lead actor in 1973 and till 2000, he acted in around 92 movies in the lead role. He started playing character and negative roles after the year 2000 and kept on entertaining his fans. Rishi Kapoor and director Kunal Kohli worked together in three movies – “Hum Tum”, “Fanaa” and “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic” and they were pretty close to each other.

While talking to an entertainment portal, Kunal revealed that the “Karz” actor called him just before the lockdown was imposed and asked Kunal about what he was doing that time. Rishi Kapoor told the filmmaker that he wanted a big movie from him as the directors who are less talented than Kunal are making big flicks. He asked Kunal to make a comeback and prove to everybody that they are wrong about him.

Kunal was not able to stop his tears as he told that at first, he didn’t believe the news of Rishi Kapoor’s departure, then he called Manish Malhotra who confirmed the tragic news. Kunal said that he broke down after hearing it, adding that nothing will be same without Rishi Kapoor, whether its life, Bollywood or parties.  Kunal is of the opinion that Rishi Kapoor shouldn’t have gone in this manner as the whole country is under lockdown and the “Chandni” actor deserved a better farewell.

Kunal also recalled the Twitter chat that they both had and he told the veteran actor that nobody can play the Dafliwala better than him as he is the original one.

There is no denying the fact that Rishi Kapoor was an inspiration for many and he will always be missed. RIP!
