Once again the Indian banking sector is facing trouble and this time, it is the private sector bank – Yes Bank which has given sleepless nights to its customers. Almost the same sort of situation was faced by the customers of Mumbai-based Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank (PMC) last year.
The apex bank, Reserve Bank of India came into action swiftly on Thursday as it suspended the Board of Directors of Yes Bank and also placed it under moratorium for 30 days which means that the bank won’t be engaged into any banking activity for that period. The shares of the bank have taken a dive downwards as the market value eroded by Rs 8,000 crore. The share value of Yes Bank came down to Rs 5.65 yesterday while once it used to trade at around Rs 400.
The former Chief Financial Officer of State Bank of India, Prashant Kumar has been appointed by RBI as an administrator and he has been bestowed with the responsibility of handling the crisis in an effective manner.
As far as the customers of Yes Bank are concerned, the withdrawal limit has been limited to Rs 50,000 which can be crossed by the bank in case of medical emergency, marriage or for making payment for higher education but it can’t cross the limit of Rs 5 lakh.
While the government is ensuring the public that there is nothing to worry and this problem is limited to one bank only while banking sector is safe and sound. The government is also promising that the restructuring of Yes Bank will be done at a very fast pace but the opposition parties are slamming the government and claiming that the BJP government is incapable of running financial institutions in a proper manner.
The micro-blogging site Twitter was also flooded with reactions and here are some selected tweets in this regard:

Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant manages to make headlines but mostly for all the wrong reasons. The young wicketkeeper batsman didn’t have a good tour of New Zealand and Sandeep Patil, the former Indian cricketer and chairman of selectors, has slammed the selection committee for preferring Pant over Wriddhiman Saha.
Before the tour of New Zealand, it was Saha who kept the wickets in the test matches against South Africa and Bangladesh and he performed so well that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli and many other players called him the “best in the world”. But the team management thought that Rishabh Pant would be better choice for New Zealand after considering his performances abroad. However, Pant had a miserable tour as he managed to score only 60 runs in the four innings of 2 test matches against New Zealand.
Sandeep Patil has criticised the team management for promoting Rishabh Pant at the cost of Wriddhiman Saha’s career. He goes on to say that for him, Saha is the first choice as experience is always needed and Saha is more experienced.
Patil also gave examples how Saha helped the team with his batting. He cited the example of Saha’s 104 knock which he scored in Gross Islet in the year 2016 and also did a partnership of 300 runs with Ravichandran Ashwin. Patil said that Saha has always helped whenever the team needed him the most and by making him sit on the bench, the selectors are harming his batting confidence.
Saha got injured in 2018 in the South African tour and then he was replaced by Rishabh Pant who started well and was touted as a special talent by some famous Indian cricketers but turned out to be a disappointment as time progressed. Rishabh Pant faltered not only with bat but also with gloves and Indian Twitterati has slammed him many times.
Do you agree with what Sandeep Patil said? Let us know your opinion in this connection.
Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya who was out of cricketing circuits due to his back injury is now back on the cricket field and that too with a bang. Hardik is presently representing the Reliance 1 team in the DY Patil T20 Cup and recently in a match against CAG, he played a blistering knock of 105 runs for which he played only 39 balls.
Pandya’s smashing innings included 10 sixes and 8 fours, he was well supported by Anmolpreet Singh who scored 88 runs (51) and they both took their team’s total to 252/5 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya showed his talent with ball as well and took 5 wickets for his team.
Needless to say, social media platforms were flooded with messages praising Pandya but one message that caught everyone’s attention was of Natasa Stankovic, Hardik’s fiancée and pretty famous model-dancer. She took to her Instagram account and posted a photo of Pandya with caption, “37-ball hundred for Hardik ‘Kung Fu’ Pandya. The deadly hitter is back at work.” She also added stickers of “My Heart Is Full” and roaring lion.
Here is the Instagram post of Natasa Stankovic:
Hardik and Natasa gave a big surprise to everyone when they shared the news of their engagement on January 1, 2020. They got engaged in Dubai after dating each other for quite some time and since then, the lovebirds have never shied from expressing love for each other. Natasa was also with Hardik when he was recovering after his back surgery and she will certainly be attending IPL 2020 and will be cheering for Pandya.
IPL 2020 will be starting from March 29 and Mumbai Indians must be happy after seeing Hardik in such a terrific form. The first match of the tournament will be played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However before IPL, India is all set to play a 3-match ODI series against South Africa at home from March 12 to March 18 and probably Hardik Pandya will be a part of the Indian team in this series.
What do you have to say about Hardik’s smashing century?
It seems that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli has become the favourite topic of discussion for everyone. Team India’s tour of New Zealand was a forgettable one despite the fact that it started in a great manner for the visitors. The Indian team won the 5-match T20I series emphatically by 5-0 but then they were not able to win a single match whether it was in 3-match ODI series or 2-match test series.
The Indian skipper’s highest score in the T20Is was 45 and in ODIs, it was 51 but things got worse in the test series as in 4-innings, he scored total 38 runs. The 31 years old cricketer has not been able to score a century in around last 20 innings and he was also slammed for his aggressive behaviour in the second test match against New Zealand.
While many cricket fans and former cricketers were slamming Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper found support from his New Zealand counterpart Kane Williamson, New Zealand cricketer Tim Southee and his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma.
Virat’s poor form is a matter of big concern and former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has talked about it. As per him, there is nothing to worry as every cricketer goes through such phase including the legends Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, etc. Viru said that he also experienced it and got over it by being patient, backing his instincts and by not making any changes in his natural game. Viru said that he is sure Virat will bounce back soon as he is too good to let this phase continue for a long time.
Virender Sehwag also felt that Virat must be under pressure to make big scores in the test series which affected him adversely and he wasn’t able to perform well. In Virender Sehwag’s opinion, the Indian skipper should be more careful with his shot selection and should play more on front foot in New Zealand as the ball seams more over there. The former cricketer also said that playing on front foot helps in playing when the ball is moving more but it is more important to know which ball to leave.
The Indian team will now be facing South Africa at home in 3-match ODI series starting 12th March and then IPL is going to start from March 29.
