Rahul Dravid Breaks Silence On Infamous Cap Throwing Incident From IPL 2014 During MIvsRR
Rahul Dravid, the former Indian cricketer, is certainly a true gentleman of the game as he is one of the coolest and calmest players of the cricket world. We have rarely seen Dravid losing his temper during the game but there is one instance when he threw his cap in anger and he is certainly not proud of what he did.
The incident dates back to the IPL 2014 when Rahul Dravid was the mentor of the IPL team Rajasthan Royals and it was the last league match which RR had to play against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians. Though it was not necessary for RR to defeat MI and earn two points for making it into the play-offs, the team had to stop MI from chasing the target successfully in 14.3 overs. The match was played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and batting first, RR gave a target of 190 runs to MI. The Mumbai batters were literally on fire as they tied the score by making 189 runs in 14.3 overs and everyone including the RR camp was happy with the fact that it had managed to make place in the play-offs but then an update came as per which if a six was smashed on the 14.4th delivery, MI’s score would be 195 and they would be able to enter the play-offs on the basis of net run rate.
The MI batter smashed a six as the winning shot and Rahul Dravid who was in the dug-out stood up and threw his cap on the ground in frustration. Though Dravid picked up the cap immediately, fans saw something which they never expected.
Talking about the incident in a video on Cred’s YouTube Channel, Rahul Dravid says that it is certainly not one of the proudest moments of his career. He adds that he has always tried to control his emotions and mostly he has managed to do so but thing with the international cricket is that one has to handle a lot of pressure. He further says that many eyes are on the cricketers all the time focusing on what they are doing both on-the field and off-the-field and the best way to deal with it is to shut out the noise. Rahul Dravid also revealed that it was not the first time with him that such an incident happened but it was the first time that it took place in public while at all other times, it used to happen in the dressing room.
The Indian cricket fans are quite happy to hear that Rahul Dravid has finally agreed to take over as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The current head coach Ravi Shastri’s tenure is going to end with the ICC T20 World Cup so the Board of Control for Cricket in India was already looking for a new candidate as Ravi Shastri has made it clear that he doesn’t intend to continue after the World Cup. Earlier, Rahul Dravid refused to work as the head coach and wanted to continue heading the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru, but ultimately the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah managed to convince him.
