International Cricket Council (ICC) the global governing body of cricket on Thursday during the annual conference of ICC in London took the decision to suspend the entire cricket team of Zimbabwe with immediate effects. The decision was taken.

The apex cricketing body released a statement stating that every member has failed to prevent government intervention in the administration of sport in the country.

ICC Board unanimously decided that the Full Member had failed to fulfil their obligation to provide a process for free and democratic elections and to ensure that there is no government interference in its administration for cricket.

Zimbabwe cricket team will no longer receive the funding from ICC and they won’t be even allowed to participate in the events hosted by ICC. Following the suspension of the cricket board participation of Zimbabwe in the T20 Men’s World Cup starting from October 2019 is in doubt.

The former captain of Zimbabwe Brendan Taylor and player Sikandar Raza took to their twitter handle to point out ICC’s ‘one decision’ which destroyed so many lives.

Dejected Sikandar Raza wrote, How one decision has made a team, strangers. How one decision has made so many people unemployed. How one decision affects so many families. How one decision has ended so many careers. Certainly not how I wanted to say goodbye to international cricket.

Former Skipper of Zimbabwe Brendan Taylor also retweeted Raza’s post and made a separate post stating ICC it’s heartbreaking to hear your verdict and suspend cricket in Zimbabwe. The ZimbabweSrc has no government back round yet our Chairman is an MP? Hundreds of honest people, players, support staff, ground staff totally devoted to ZC out of a job, just like that.

Solomon Mire announced his retirement from international cricket but the cricketer is extremely disheartened to announce his retirement at this troublesome period of Zimbabwe cricket.

The ban can be uplifted by ICC only after October when the apex board will meet again to reconsider Zimbabwe’s status.
