Here Is Everything You Need To Know About The Final IPL Media Rights Figures

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the richest cricket board of the world and it is going to get richer as the media rights of IPL have been sold at sky-high prices to various broadcasters. IPL is undoubtedly one of the biggest and most popular sports events of the world so it is quite obvious that the media rights for the next five years (2023-2027) have been sold at pretty high rates. After the results of media auction, IPL has become the second most lucrative league in terms of earnings per game, the first on the list being National Football League.

There are four different packages (A-D) and before we go in details, let us just tell you that the total amount at which these media rights have been sold is whopping Rs. 48,390.50 crore.

1. Package A (TV rights for the Indian subcontinent):

Disney Star has won the bid for a whopping price of Rs. 23,575 crore for 410 matches for 5 years. One more point which needs to be mentioned here is that the number of matches in IPL will increase to 94 in the future while in the current scenario, only 74 matches are played in the tournament.

– In 2023 & 2024, IPL will have 74 matches

– In 2025 & 2026, IPL will have 84 matches and

– In 2027, IPL will have 94 matches

The BCCI kept the base price per game at Rs. 49 crore and they will be earning Rs. 57.5 crore.

Reliance backed Viacom18 purchased the Package B for Rs. 20,500 crore for 410 matches across the five years.

The BCCI fixed the base price at Rs. 33 crore and it is going to earn Rs. 50 crore per match.

3. Package C (Digital special bouquet India):

This deal includes 98 matches across 5 years – 18 matches in 2023 & 2024 which includes opening match, four play-off matches and 13 double header games. The number of matches will increase to 20 in 2025 & 2026 and 22 in 2027 as the total number of matches is also going to increase. To make it simple– 18 + 18 + 20 + 20 + 22 = 98.

This package has been bought by Viacom 18 for a price of Rs. 3,258 crore. The base price per match is Rs. 16 crore and the BCCI is going to earn almost double as it has been sold for Rs. 33.24 crore.

4. Package D (TV & Digital rights for the rest of the world):

Viacom 18 has purchased the rights for South Africa, New Zealand, Australia & UK while the rights for Middle East, North Africa and USA have been bought by Times Internet for a total amount of Rs. 1058 crore for 410 matches.

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah also acknowledged the role of digital revolution in increasing the earnings of BCCI as he tweeted, “Viacom18 bags digital rights with its winning bid of Rs 23,758 cr. India has seen a digital revolution & the sector has endless potential. The digital landscape has changed the way cricket is watched. It has been a big factor in the growth of the game & the Digital India vision.”

He also stated that the revenue generated through IPL will be used for strengthening domestic cricket in India as he wrote in one of his tweets, “The BCCI will utilize the revenue generated from IPL to strengthen our domestic cricket structure starting from grassroots, to boost infrastructure and spruce up facilities across India and enrich the overall cricket-watching experience.”

Jay Shah also shout out to the state cricket associations and IPL franchises to work together and give cricket fans a memorable and rich experience as he tweeted, “Now, it’s time for our state associations, IPL Franchises to work together with the IPL to enhance the fan experience and ensure that our biggest stakeholder – ‘the cricket fan’ is well looked after and enjoys high quality cricket in world-class facilities.”

Woah! That is a huge amount of money!!!!!

Kapil Dev Says Rishabh Pant Needs To Focus Otherwise These 3 Players Will Replace Him

The Indian team finally succeeded in stopping the winning streak of South Africa by defeating it in the third T20I by 48 runs. The match was played yesterday at Dr. Y.S.R. ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and this was the first win for Rishabh Pant as a skipper.

Well, Rishabh Pant has been touted as a very special player by many former cricketers and on some occasions especially in test matches, he has performed in an exemplary manner too but he hasn’t been able to make a big impact in the short formats. Pant’s performance in the IPL 2022 was not very good and even questions were raised on his captaincy on couple of occasions.

The former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev under whose leadership India won the first ODI World Cup in 1983 feels that Rishabh Pant needs to work more on his skills because he is getting tough competition from Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and now also from Dinesh Karthik who has made a comeback after 3 years. DK compelled the selectors to include him in the team by performing superbly in the IPL 2022 for his team Royal Challengers Bangalore and it won’t be wrong to say that he played the role of a finisher to a very good extent.

In an interview, Kapil Dev states that if we talk about wicket-keeping and he has to choose one from four of them (Pant, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and DK), all of them seem equal to him. He adds that though Ishan, Samson and Pant are more explosive batters yet on any given day, all four can win a match for their team.

He goes on to say that the number one choice for India’s T20 team might be Rishabh Pant but in terms of consistency, Dinesh Karthik is far ahead of Samson, Pant and Ishan Kishan. Kapil Dev is full of praises for DK as he says that undoubtedly Pant is a youngster and he has a lot of cricket left in him but Karthik has huge experience, he started playing before MS Dhoni and he is still playing.

Talking about Wriddhiman Saha, the former Indian cricketer says that he may be a wicketkeeper among all of them but he lacks in the batting department. Kapil Dev is pretty upset with Sanju Samson as he feels that despite being very talented, he is not doing justice to his talent because he performs well in one or two matches and then he does nothing.

As far as match is concerned, toss was won by the visitors and they chose to bowl first. India started well as both the openers – Ruturaj Gaikwad (57 runs, 35 balls, 7 fours & 2 sixes) and Ishan Kishan (54 runs, 35 balls, 5 fours & 2 sixes) produced a partnership of 97 runs for the first wicket and helped their team in putting up a total of 179/5 on the score board. In response, the Proteas were wrapped up by the Indian bowlers at the score of 131 and the Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his bowling figures of 3/20 in his 4 overs.

The fourth T20I will be played on 17th June at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium which is also popular as Khandheri Cricket Stadium, Rajkot, India.

What do you think of Kapil Dev’s opinion? Do you agree with him? Let us know.

“Impress Virat, You’ll Play In IPL & Maybe For India Too,” Akash Deep Reveals Manoj Tiwary’s Words

Many young Indian cricketers have become popular among the Indian cricket fans because of their good performances in the IPL and Akash Deep is also one of them. The 25 years old pacer who plays for Bengal in the domestic circuits will certainly try to play an important role for his team in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Madhya Pradesh. Recently, he talked about his campaign in the IPL 2022 in which he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore; he played five matches and took the same number of wickets at an average of 41.0.

Initially Akash Deep was bought by RCB in the IPL 2021 as a replacement of Washington Sundar but he didn’t play any match in the last season. Akash is basically from Bihar and it was in the year 2016 that he moved to Delhi where his elder sister stayed. One of his friends asked him to shift to Kolkata to play club cricket and the right-arm pacer stated that he used to get match fees for playing which was new for him.

Akash Deep revealed that the famous Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary who has joined politics now advised him to impress Virat Kohli with his game if he wanted to play in the IPL and for India as well. As per Akash, Manoj Tiwary told him that Virat was the Indian team’s skipper so if he got impressed with his game, he (Akash) might get to play for India and not just in the IPL.

Akash Deep may not have got a chance to play in the IPL 2021 but he kept on working hard in practice matches and in the mega-auctions of the IPL 2022, RCB bought him for the base price of Rs. 20 lakhs.

Akash Deep further said that he grew up watching Dhoni and Kohli play and they were superheroes for him. He never believed that he would ever meet them, leave aside sharing dressing room with them. He added that it was all just like a dream for him.

The pacer added that it was a very emotional moment for him when he was handed over the cap by Virat Kohli and what surprised Akash Deep the most was that the former RCB skipper knew about his struggles and his journey as Virat Kohli told him that he deserved to be here and asked him to enjoy and keep up the good work. As per Akash, the IPL 2022 was a great learning curve for him.

Akash Deep went on to say that sharing the dressing room with the Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood was really helpful for him as he spent a lot of time with him and talked about many things related to pace bowling such as off-stump line, preparation for the game, how to deal with injuries and workload management, how to remain mentally strong, etc. The pacer stated that there was a time when he used to watch Josh Hazlewood bowling in the YouTube videos and now he was bowling with him in the matches.

Let’s see when Akash Deep gets to wear the blue jersey!

Sheldon Jackson Slams Selectors, “They Said We’re Not Picking Anyone Above 30, Is There A Law?”

There is no doubt that donning the blue jersey and playing for the country is a dream which every cricketer sees with open eyes but very few among the thousands are actually able to turn their dream into reality. The basic criteria for making an entry into the Indian team is to perform well at the domestic level as well as in the IPL but some players don’t get call for the national duty even after performing very well in the domestic circuits.

Sheldon Jackson, the 35 years old Indian wicketkeeper-batter who plays for Saurashtra in the domestic cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL is one of those cricketers who are not getting selected for the national team despite performing wonderfully in the domestic circuits.

Though Sheldon Jackson wasn’t able to make any impact in the IPL yet if we look at his domestic performance, he has scored 5947 runs in the 79 matches and will touch the 10k mark pretty soon across all the formats. He is second on the list of the batsmen who scored the most number of centuries (19) for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy, the first being Cheteshwar Pujara with 21 centuries.

Recently in an interview, Sheldon Jackson talks about the issue of not getting selected in the Indian team. He says that there has been no communication regarding as to why he is not selected but when he has enquired what he needs to do more in order to get selected, he is told that he is old now as they are not taking anyone in the team who is above 30 yrs of age. The cricketer adds that despite telling him they are not selecting anyone above 30, a 32-33 years old player got selected after a year or so. He further says that he has been quite vocal in this regard and asks why they don’t come up with a law which makes it clear that a player won’t get selected once he crosses 30, 35 or 40.

After the former skipper MS Dhoni took retirement in the year 2014 from test matches, Rishabh Pant, Wriddhiman Saha and Dinesh Karthik were used by the selectors on a rotation basis. While Rishabh Pant has almost confirmed his place on the basis of his wonderful performances, the second choice wicketkeeper for India in the current scenario is 28 years old KS Bharat who averages 36.65 at domestic level. Both KS Bharat and Sheldon Jackson have played the same number of matches at the domestic level but the latter averages around 50 which is pretty higher than the average of Bharat.

As far as Wriddhiman Saha is concerned, he has been told by the selectors that he won’t be considered for the future. On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik has made a comeback after three years but in the shortest format because of his some superb performances in the IPL.

Sheldon Jackson has made it clear in the interview that he hasn’t lost hope and the more he is snubbed, the more he gets determined to work hard and prove himself that there is still hunger left in him.

All the best, Sheldon Jackson!

Someone Digs Out Shah Rukh’s 1989 Film “Umeed” & Twitter Finds It Similar To “Panchayat”

The digital platforms have given us a plethora of choices for entertainment as many web series and shows are getting aired on various OTTs and some of them are really incredible. One such web series is Panchayat which stars Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Chandan Roy, Faisal Malik, etc. in important roles. In the series, an engineering graduate joins as a Panchayat secretary in a village Phulera because he doesn’t get any other good job and decides to prepare of CAT examination. The story is all about his struggles with the village life and how he and other villagers handle the problems faced by them.

After the first season was super hit, viewers were waiting for the second season but it got delayed due to COVID-19 and it got released recently. The episodes of the second season also left audiences awestruck and they were full praises for the actors and the makers.

As Panchayat is a story of a village, many fans of Shah Rukh Khan tried to compare it with SRK’s “Swades” which was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. In this movie, SRK played the character of Mohan Bhargav, a NASA scientist who visited a small village in India but chose never to return and worked for the welfare of the village. In fact in a recent interview when Jitendra Kumar was asked who he thinks would have done the role of Panchayat secretary if the web series had been made in 1990s, the actor said that Shah Rukh Khan would have been the obvious choice.

Another Twitter user reacted to the above tweet and talked about a movie “Umeed” in which SRK played the character of a banker who was transferred to a small village where nobody else wanted to go.

The Twitter user wrote, “He has done TV serial called Umeed in which SRK character was Banker and was situated in a village which is not a developed ones. Very striking similarities with Panchayat with only difference is that Jeetu Bhaiya character is a Sachiv”

Another Twitter user gave little details about Umeed:

As Umeed is of just 53 minutes duration, I am going to watch it now, what about you?

Salman Butt Slams Pakistan Team Management, Raises Questions On Their Direction & Strategy

The Pakistani cricket team will look forward to clean sweep the 3-match ODI series against West Indies by winning the third and the final ODI of the series which will be played today at Multan Cricket Stadium. Pakistan has already taken an invincible lead of 2-0 in the series and despite the fact that it won the 2nd ODI by a huge margin of 120 runs, one former Pak cricketer who has also led the Pakistani team in his playing days was pretty unhappy with the manner in which the squad played the match.

We are talking about Salman Butt who was upset with the Pakistani team; he not only raised questions on their strategy but also called them directionless. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Salman Butt stated that Pakistan can solve some of their issues on their own. He said that in the first ODI, Khusdil Shah played the role of a finisher in a good style and brought out the team from difficulty, he not only remained unbeaten but also ensured that the team won the match.

Salman Butt further said that despite playing so well in the first ODI, Khusdil Shah was sent to bat after Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan when Pakistan was facing problems. Raising questions on the thinking of the Pakistani team management and their plans, he asked whether they don’t know that Khusdil Shah is a batter who has a wonderful track record in domestic cricket and they are sending him after bowling all-rounders.

Salman Butt is of the opinion that though Khusdil Shah finished the first ODI for Pak when it was chasing 306 by scoring 41 runs in 23 balls, this doesn’t mean that he should be given only 4-5 overs to play. The former Pak skipper went on to say that Khusdil should be given more overs so that he can play big innings.

Salman Butt also questioned the selection of Mohammad Harris who replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed in the squad. The former Pak cricketer stated that if Mohammad Harris replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed, why he is not playing as a wicket-keeper batsman. He further stated that if the team needs a middle-order batsman, Shan Masoon or Kamran Ghulan should be inducted in the team instead of Mohammad Harris.

Salman Butt categorically said that West Indies is not giving any challenge to the Pak cricket team because it is facing many problems of its own. He concluded by questioning the direction in which the Pak squad is going and what their strategy is.

What is your take on the statements made by Salman Butt? Do you agree with him?

Benny Howell Indirectly Vents His Anger At Punjab Kings For Not Playing Him In IPL 2022

The Indian Premier League is certainly one of the biggest sports events of the world and what makes it more popular is the fact that big names of the world cricket come to play in it and entertain cricket lovers. However as per the rules of the IPL, only four foreign players can be included in the playing XI and in the process of forming a right combination, many times some foreign players don’t even get the chance to play a single match in the whole tournament.

Something of this sort happened with the England cricketer Benny Howell who was bought by Punjab Kings for a price of Rs. 40 lakhs in the mega-auctions of the IPL 2022 but he was benched for the whole season and didn’t even get a chance to make his debut in the league. What makes it a little surprising is the fact that Benny has a wonderful track record when it comes to T20 cricket as he has played 162 T20Is in which he has scored more than 2000 runs at an avg of 22.72. His strike rate of 130.50 is also pretty good; he has scored 6 fifties till now and he is a medium pacer as well. As a bowler also, Benny Howell could have been of a great help as he has taken 167 wickets in his career with 5/18 being his best.

Benny Howell must have been quite upset with not getting a chance to play in the whole tournament and recently he took a dig at the franchise when it posted a tweet asking fans to tell their pick from the overseas players.

In response, Benny Howell tweeted, “Just remember, I provided plenty of hydration for the lads and never ran out of towels”.

PBKS didn’t have a good season in the IPL 2022 as it won 7 out of 14 matches and was not able to make it to the play-offs. Though the Punjab franchise has been associated with the IPL since the inaugural edition (2008), it hasn’t won a single IPL title till date. Let’s see whether Benny Howell will get a chance to play in the IPL 2023 and will he play an important role in making his team win its first title!
