Ishant Sharma Went Unsold In IPL Auction But Appears In Virtual Guest Box, Twitter Reacts

The craze of the IPL 2022 is in full swing among the Indian cricket fans but some fans are a little disappointed with the fact that they are not able to see their favorite cricketers this time. While AB de Villiers decided to take retirement, Chris Gayle didn’t register and there were some big names who went unsold such as Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma, etc. While Suresh Raina made his debut as a commentator in the IPL this year, Ishant Sharma also made an entry in the tournament in a different manner which has left his fans in a state of shock.

Ishant Sharma led the Indian pace battery for quite a few years and he played for many teams (Delhi Capitals, Deccan Chargers, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rising Pune Supergiant) in the IPL since the inaugural edition of 2008 but this year, he went unsold because of his poor performances in the recent past. The Delhi cricketer didn’t attract a single bid at his base price of Rs. 1.5 crore but in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders which was played at Dr. D Y Patil Stadium, Mumbai, he was seen sitting in the virtual guest box.

Fans were left bewildered after seeing the pacer in the virtual guest box in place of the field and many were sad and upset for Ishant Sharma. This is how fans reacted:

The emergence of young Indian pacers in the Indian cricket world has made it tough for Ishant Sharma to retain his place in the Indian squad, though he was India’s main bowler in the longest format for quite some time.

Ishant Sharma has played 105 test matches for the country which certainly speaks high of his caliber and talent and he has 311 test wickets to his name. As far as shorter formats are concerned, he has played 80 ODIs in which he has taken 115 wickets and in 14 T20Is, he has taken 8 wickets. As far as IPL is concerned, he has taken 72 wickets in 93 matches that he has played for different franchises.

Seeing Ishant Sharma sitting in the virtual guest box is really shocking!

5 Cricketers Who Debuted With Virat Kohli But Couldn’t Make It Big In Cricket World

Virat Kohli may not have scored a century in any format for more than last two years but he is certainly one of the greatest of all times. Many records have been broken by the former skipper of the Indian cricket team and he is considered to be the best candidate to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries.

Virat Kohli came into limelight after India’s under-19 team won the ICC Under-19 World Cup under his leadership in the year 2008, he was the second Indian skipper to achieve this feat. Soon he became an integral part of the Indian cricket squad and he was also made the skipper of the team in all the three formats. Though India never won any major ICC tournament under Kohli’s leadership, he is still one of the most successful skippers of the country because his winning percentage is more than that of any other captain.

While Virat Kohli has tasted success in his career and he is an important part of the Indian team even now, there are some players who debuted into the international cricket in the same year as Virat Kohli but they are nowhere to be seen in the cricketing circuits at present.

Here are 5 such players who debuted with Virat Kohli but were not able to make it big in the cricket world:

1. Subramaniam Badrinath:

The cricketer from Tamil Nadu performed superbly in domestic circuits because of which he was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2008. Though Badrinath was not a big hitter of the ball, he played some really good knocks and helped his team in winning matches and soon he got the call for national duty but he was not able to use the opportunity for his benefit. In 7 ODIs, Badrinath was able to score only 79 runs and as a result, he was not included in the Indian squad for the 2011 ICC World Cup. He did get one more chance as he was called for the ODI and T20I series against West Indies but that turned out be his last international series. It is being said that he has taken up commentary after taking retirement from cricket.

2. Manpreet Gony:

The pacer from Punjab made an impact in the IPL 2008 as he took 17 wickets from the 16 games that he played and soon he was included in the Indian squad. However, he was not able to replicate his performance and picked only 2 wickets in the 2 ODIs that he could play. He was dropped from the national team but he kept on playing in the IPL for various IPL teams.

3. Manoj Tiwary:

The cricketer turned politician from Bengal was considered as one of the most promising talents in those times and his superb performances in domestic circuits formed the platform for his entry in the Indian cricket team. He made his ODI debut against Australia but was not able to make any impact, however he kept on performing at the domestic level and he was once again given a chance against West Indies, three years after his debut. Though it is correct that Manoj Tiwary had to face a lot of competition, it is also true that his international career got affected due to his injuries too.

4. Yusuf Pathan:

The elder brother of cricketer Irfan Pathan was known for his aggressive style of batting and he was certainly a good all-rounder. Yusuf Pathan played many match-winning knocks in domestic, international and IPL matches and he had the capability to win matches on his own but his biggest problem was his inconsistency.

5. Pragyan Ojha:

The Indian cricket has produced many great spinners and Pragyan Ojha was also termed as the boy to look for in the future. Though he secured his place in the longest format of the game, he was not much effective in the shorter formats and last international match of Sachin Tendulkar turned out to be his last international game as well. Pragyan Ojha has 113 wickets to his name from 24 test matches, 21 wickets from 18 ODIs and 10 wickets from 6 T20Is. In Feb 2020, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Not everyone makes it big but still these cricketers are special because making it to the national squad is no less than an achievement. What do you say?

“He Deserves To Be Banned For Whole Season,” Faf Du Plessis Got Trolled For Horrible DRS Call

Royal Challengers Bangalore has registered its first win in the ongoing IPL 2022 as yesterday it defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 3 wickets in a match which was played at Dr. D Y Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. KKR was considered as stronger team of the two before the match started because it came after defeating the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in its first match but situation was completely different as the RCB bowlers wreaked havoc in the KKR batting line up after RCB won the toss and invited the Kolkata franchise to bat first.

KKR kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and despite the fact that its eight batsmen touched the double digit mark, the whole team still got out for just 128 runs in 18.5 overs. Considering the fact that RCB has a very strong batting line-up and even though it lost its first match to Punjab Kings yet in that match, it scored 205 runs, everyone thought that this run-chase will be pretty easy for the Bangalore franchise. However, the KKR bowlers were also bang on target and they dismissed Faf du Plessis, Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli quickly, making things difficult for RCB. RCB batters David Willey (18), Sherfane Rutherford (28) and Shahbaz Ahmed (27) played useful knocks and took their team near the target but it was Dinesh Karthik (14) who finished the match in style and RCB won the match by 3 wickets with 4 balls remaining in its innings.

While Faf du Plessis was quite superb as far as his captaincy is concerned, there was a moment when he committed a big mistake and Twitterati didn’t miss the opportunity of having some fun at his expense. On the last ball of the 16th over which was bowled by Harshal Patel to Varun Chakravarthy, the latter played it with straight bat but Patel felt that the ball hit the shoes and he made a strong appeal for lbw.

When the on-field umpire gave negative decision, the RCB skipper believed his bowler and went for DRS. It was clearly seen in the replay that ball had hit the bat and it was quite an embarrassment as Faf du Plessis is too experienced to make such a silly mistake.

It won’t be wrong to say that Faf du Plessis must have been in a hurry to wrap up the KKR innings as they had already lost 9 wickets until this DRS but still Twitter was in no mood to let him go away and this is how people reacted:

Recently during an interview with a leading daily, the singer revealed that he received around 150 marriage proposals in the last 20 years but he was not ready for them as his work holds a lot of importance in his life. He adds that it is a presumption that his lifestyle is the main reason behind him not tying the knot but it is not the case in reality. He said that he never had the courage to introduce his girlfriends to his family, especially to his elder brother Daler Mehendi. Mika is ready for marriage now and his family is happy that he has finally agreed to get hitched. He adds that neither he has any issue with meeting people nor he has any phobia, it is just that he doesn’t like saying No while sitting in front of someone as he is concerned about the girl and her parents and this is why he has never met a girl in the last 20 yrs. Mika Singh states that it will be better for him to either get married now or remain single forever. Talking about the type of girl he wants to get married, he states that they both should have an understanding and he wants someone who knows what she wants and what type of understanding she is looking for.

Mika Singh further states that he likes the way he is, he has faced many challenges in life and he is a bad boy with good heart which is the reason why he enjoys a huge fan following. Mika Singh also discussed about his girlfriends and said that he was in a relationship with a girl in 2001 when he was struggling but her parents didn’t like someone from Bollywood. He added that he had 2-3 girlfriends, though he told them that he was going to become a star but their parents were not interested. He also stated that he attended marriages of 2-3 girlfriends because he is not so selfish that he would separate a girl from her parents.

“Jos Buttler Felt Deflated,” R Ashwin Speaks On Controversial Mankading Incident In IPL 2019

Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the most famous cricketers of the present times but it is also true that he is one of the most controversial cricketers as well. He attracted a lot of slamming when he mankaded the English cricketer Jos Buttler during an IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Mankading is the term which is used for dismissing a batsman who is at the non-striker’s end by hitting the stumps even before the ball is being thrown by the bowler if the batsman is out of the crease.

While many criticized Ashwin for going against the spirit of the game, the Indian spinner made it clear that whatever he did was correct as it is within the laws of the game and at one fell swoop, he also added that he would do it again on getting a chance. This controversy took place in the IPL 2019 and at that time, Jos Buttler used to play for Rajasthan Royals (he still plays for the same franchise) while R Ashwin was the skipper of Kings XI Punjab. However, the situation has changed a little as now Ashwin is also a member of RR.

Recently while talking about that incident in an interview with a leading daily, Ashwin said that at that time Jos Buttler felt deflated and got very upset. He added that such reaction was quite natural on the part of Jos Buttler as this was not something that happens regularly and he (Ashwin) totally understands that.

Some time ago, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the custodian of cricket rules, made some changes in the rules of the game and one of them was making mankading the legitimate form of dismissal and it was added under the run-out category.

Speaking in regard to these changes, Ashwin says that whether it would be accepted by all those who are related to the cricket fraternity is something for which we need to wait but he feels that the manner in which the game and the players are evolving, this form of dismissal should also be accepted. He further adds that whether to use it or not should depend on a player and character assassination should not be done if a player uses it.

Ashwin played the first match of RR against SRH and in that match, he wasn’t able to take a single wicket in his 4 overs in which he gave 21 runs.

Hope to see these two players gelling well!

KL Rahul Roasted Like Never Before For His ‘Felt Like A Win’ Tweet Post Loss Against GT

The two new IPL teams Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans contested against each other in their first IPL match and while Hardik Pandya must be on cloud nine as his team won the match, KL Rahul needs to analyze and learn from his mistakes as his captaincy seems to be a matter of concern to Lucknow fans.

The match was played on March 28 at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium, the toss was won by Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants was told to bat first. The GT pacer Mohammed Shami was literally on fire as he dismissed the LSG skipper KL Rahul for a golden duck and then he also sent Quinton de Kock (7) and Manish Pandey (5) back to the dug-out quite early. There was a time when LSG had lost its four top-order batsmen at the score of 29 runs and it appeared as if the new IPL team would not be able to cross the three digit mark in its first match.

However, the two young cricketers Deepak Hooda (55 runs, 41 balls, 6 fours & 2 sixes) and Ayush Badoni (54 runs, 41 balls, 4 fours & 3 sixes) not only stabilized the innings but also ensured that their team reached a respectable total. Krunal Pandya also played a useful knock of 21 runs not out and helped his team in putting up 158/6 on the board.

Though Shubman Gill got out for a duck, Matthew Wade (30), Hardik Pandya (33) and David Miller (30) helped their team in cruising towards the target but the highlight of the GT innings was Rahul Tewatia’s knock of 40 runs not out (24 balls, 5 fours & 2 sixes). GT achieved the target with 5 wickets in hand and 2 balls remaining in its innings. Mohammed Shami was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his superb performance.

It won’t be wrong to say that LSG made a brilliant comeback in the game but KL Rahul’s captaincy came under fire for the manner in which he used his bowlers, especially towards the climax of the game.

KL Rahul further attracted the ire of cricket fans when he made a tweet in which he stated, “This one felt like a win because of the way we fought. Proud”

Soon the micro-blogging site was flooded with reactions and here are some of the selected ones:
