5 Cricketers Who Chose A Completely Different Career After Taking Retirement

Cricket is one of the most popular sports of the world and there are many who aim to play for the country but very few are able to get this honour. While everyone feels that cricketers earn a lot, we don’t get to see the hard work that they put in to achieve success in their career as their training starts from childhood and then they have to prove themselves at every given point. The career of a cricketer is very short as majority of the cricketers get retire by the time they reach their mid-thirties so it is quite obvious that they like to make the most of this short period.

After retirement, some cricketers choose to live a quiet life with their family but a number of players get connected with cricket and play different roles such as coach, commentator, cricket analyst, etc. However, there have been few cricketers who took to totally different professions after their retirement.

Here are 5 such cricketers who opted to go in different professions after leaving the world of cricket:

1. Brett Lee:

Brett Lee, the former Australian pacer, is one of the most famous and most loved cricketers of the world and he used to make life of batters difficult with his lethal bowling as he was considered as one of the fastest of his times. After taking retirement from cricket in the year 2012, he took to singing as he recorded some songs with the Indian playback singer Asha Bhonsle. He also hosted the travel show Getaway with Jesinta Campbell, the former Miss Australia, and also tried his hand in acting as he starred in a Bollywood movie “UnINDIAN”.

2. Andrew Flintoff:

The former England all-rounder was certainly one of the best of his times and there was a time when he was compared to Ian Botham. Andrew Flintoff gave many match-winning performances with both bat and ball and his outstanding performance in the Ashes 2005 will always be remembered by the English cricket fans. After taking retirement from cricket in the year 2010, Andrew Flintoff worked very hard for stepping in boxing and in 2012, he defeated America’s Richard Dawson who was invincible till that time. Other than this, Flintoff also started his fashion range, took part in a reality show and won it and also became host of a TV show.

3. Salil Ankola:

The former Indian pacer made his debut in a test match against Pakistan in 1989 which was played at Karachi. Interestingly, Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Younis also made their debut in the same match. Salil Ankola represented the country till 1997 but he was never able to secure his place in the team for a long period and kept going out and coming in the team. After he was diagnosed with bone tumor of left shin, he chose to make a career in television and he not only worked in many serials but also took part in reality show Bigg Boss 1 which he had to leave quite early due to legal reasons.

4. Imran Khan:

The former Pakistani cricketer under whose leadership Pakistan won their only World Cup in the year 1992 chose to serve the country by entering the politics and presently he is the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

5. Curtly Ambrose:

The 6 feet 7 inches tall West Indian bowler was a nightmare for the batters of his times and he can easily be referred to as one of the greatest bowlers of all times. After hanging his boots, Curtly Ambrose played guitar for music bands – Big Bad Dread and the Baldhead and there are quite a few videos of him playing guitar on the Internet as well.

Do you know about any other cricketer who took to a completely different profession after retirement? Add to the list.

Former BCCI Official Discloses The Reasons Why Virat Kohli Was Not Happy With Anil Kumble

The pair of Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli can easily be referred to as one of the most successful pairs of coach and captain as the Indian team performed pretty well and won many series both at home and away during their tenure. However, things were not the same when Anil Kumble was the head coach of the Indian cricket squad as he and Virat Kohli didn’t share a good relationship.

Anil Kumble was appointed as the head coach for one year in 2016 but he was not able to complete his tenure as he and Virat Kohli were not on good terms and Kumble himself called the relationship as untenable.

Ratnakar Shetty, the former BCCI administrator, has made many claims regarding the troubled relationship between the then head coach Anil Kumble and skipper Virat Kohli in his book entitled “On Board: Test.Trial.Triumph. My years in BCCI”. Ratnakar Shetty who was the manager at that point of time called the events which resulted in Anil Kumble’s resignation as shocking. He wrote that Virat Kohli who was leading team India in all the formats by that time was not happy with Kumble for not supporting and standing up for the players plus he was also held responsible for creating a tense environment in the dressing room.

Ratnakar Shetty wrote that he was informed by former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag about things not going in the right manner between Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli. Shetty said that he happened to meet the legendary former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in the second week of May during the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab and it was then that Viru informed Shetty that he had been asked by R Sridhar to apply for the post of team India’s coach.

Ratnakar Shetty wrote that after few days, he visited Hyderabad for the final of the IPL and after the game, there was a meeting which was attended by CoA, coach Anil Kumble and skipper Virat Kohli; while Kumble was attending the meeting in person, Kohli attended it virtually. In the meeting, Virat and Kumble had to make a presentation in regard to their plans for the future. During the meeting, Vinod Rai (the member of CoA) asked Shetty about the process used for appointing the coach in 2016 which Shetty explained but what Vinod Rai said next shocked both Kumble and Shetty as Rai said that the same process would be followed for appointing the next coach.

Ratnakar Shetty wrote that it was quite obvious some people were not happy with Anil Kumble, the skipper and the coach didn’t have coordination and it was also clear that the skipper had an upper hand in this regard. Anil Kumble resigned after India suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Pakistan in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and he was replaced by Ravi Shastri who was the head coach of team India for a period of 4 years which ended in November 2021.

Now Rahul Dravid is the new head coach of Indian cricket team and Virat Kohli has quit captaincy of India in all the three formats.

Virat’s Childhood Coach Criticizes Hardik Pandya For His Immature Remark On Bowling In T20WC

The Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya will be leading the Ahmedabad IPL team in the IPL 2022 but recently he made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Recently in an interview, he stated that he was made to bowl in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 despite the fact that his fitness level was not upto the mark. He added that he was selected in the team purely as a batter but was asked to bowl in the midway through the tournament.

Hardik Pandya said that during the tournament, he felt as if everything was thrown at him. He said that he was selected in India’s T20 World Cup squad as a batter, he tried pretty hard to bowl in the first match but he couldn’t and in the second, he did bowl even when he was not supposed to do that.

After Hardik Pandya made this statement, cricket fans and people from the Indian cricket fraternity started reacting and Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma had no hesitation in slamming the Gujarat cricketer. While speaking on a YouTube channel, Rajkumar Sharma said that the selectors favored Hardik Pandya by keeping him in the team despite having fitness issues and instead of being thankful to them, he is making such an immature statement.

Former Indian cricketer Nikhil Chopra also criticized Hardik Pandya for it as there is no point in making such a statement on his part. He adds that the selectors should have also made it clear that Hardik Pandya has been selected only as a batter and not as an all-rounder. Chopra also states that the skipper must have asked him whether he would like to bowl or not before giving him the ball.

What is your take about the statement made by Hardik Pandya? Do let us know.

“People Keep Shouting Like Bus Conductors,” Salman Butt Reacts To Sarfaraz’s Fixer Tweet

Sarfaraz Ahmed is constantly under fire for his captaincy and poor performances in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2022 and this is the third season in which his team Quetta Gladiators is not able to perform well. In the past two seasons, Quetta Gladiators came at the fifth and sixth positions and in the current tournament, QG is at the fourth position with 3 losses and 1 win. Sarfaraz Ahmed hasn’t made any significant impact with his bat as in the three innings that he has played, he has scored 16*, 21 and 11.

Sarfaraz Ahmed’s on-field behaviour has also become a topic of discussion among the Pakistani cricket fans and former cricketers as he is mostly seen shouting and imposing his decisions on his team members rather than listening to their suggestions.

The former Pakistani skipper Salman Butt has also slammed Sarfaraz Ahmed during a conversation and said that Sarfaraz Ahmed is not doing any favor to him by doing all this but he is creating problems for himself and he won’t be able to find a solution for them. Salman Butt also states that Sarfaraz Ahmed should focus more on his game as for the last 1.5 years, he has been travelling with the Pakistani team as the second-choice wicketkeeper.

Sarfaraz Ahmed soon reacted to the statement made by Salman Butt and he took a dig at the former cricketer without taking his name but by referring to the 2010 spot-fixing scandal in which Salman Butt was found involved along with other two Pakistani cricketers and he was not only removed from captaincy but also banned from playing cricket.

Sarfaraz Ahmed tweeted, “Pakistan ko on duty beachne wala fixer jub niyat pe bhashan dega phir to Allah he Hafiz hai .#justsying”

On Wednesday night, Salman Butt came live on his YouTube channel and many of his followers asked his reaction on the tweet made by Sarfaraz Ahmed. Initially, Salman refused to say anything but later on when the followers kept on asking him, he made a subtle remark which made it clear that he was in no mood to elongate the issue. He stated, “You’ve come to the wrong shop. You won’t get the stuff you want from this place. There already are a lot of shops here where people keep shouting like bus conductors, so you might as well go there.”

Now, some fans are of the opinion that Salman Butt has tried to downplay the incident and several others feel that he has called Sarfaraz Ahmed a bus conductor.

What do you think of the statement made by Salman Butt? Do let us know.
