Automobile racing is one of the most exciting sports to watch due to the danger associated with it. The risk of injury is common with all sports, but in few others, can the injuries be as severe as in auto racing.

  • 1955 Le Mans Disaster

This crash is widely regarded as one of – if not the most – disastrous motor crashes in the history of motorsport. Why? This disaster claimed 84 lives and led to 180 injured people.

The crash occurred at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Motor Race in 1955. The track was the Circuit de la Sarthe in La Mans, France.

It began due to Mike Hawthorn, a Jaguar driver, who attempted a pit stop, so pulled to the right side of the track. In doing so, he drove in front of Lance Macklin, who was driving an Austin-Healey. Macklin swerved out from behind Hawthorn, who was slowing at the time, to continue the race at top speed. Macklin’s right swerve barreled straight into the path of Levegh. Levegh, driving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, was going at a much faster pace and, with Macklin swerving into his path, rear-ended him.

The high-speed at which Levegh rear-ended Macklin caused Levegh to override Macklin and launch his car into the air. The force was so powerful that Levegh cleared a protective berm at the speed of 200km/h. Levegh’s car made two impacts within the spectator area before the car fell apart and no longer moved.

The final impact threw Levegh from the car, where he was instantly killed. That final stop also threw debris from the vehicle into the spectator area. Some of these pieces of debris were incredibly large – amongst them the engine block, bonnet and front suspension. When the back of Levegh’s car landed, it exploded and ignited.

This crash caused 83 deaths, plus the death of the driver, Levegh. One hundred and eighty people were injured, many from this explosion of debris.

When it came down to placing blame for the crash, much debate was had at the time. After an official query, none of the drivers were held responsible, but the track itself, which was 30 years old, took the blame. The track hadn’t been designed for cars going at modern-day speeds and so hadn’t been able to take the collision.

After the Le Mans Disaster of 1955, Mercedes-Benz retired from motorsport racing for 33 years.

  • Sophia Flörsch

Back in 2018, teenager Sophia Flörsch competed in the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix. Having previously competed in Formula 4, the 17-year-old was considered one of Germany’s up and coming stars.

However, during the Macau Grand Prix, she was caught up in a terrible crash. Viewers could see her Van Amersfoort Racing car take a corner at speed and lose control. Her vehicle then clipped another car, flew through the air and finally crashed into a track-side media building.

The driver of the clipped car, Sho Tsuboi, had to go to the hospital. Two photographers and a race marshal standing near the area the car crashed into also had to be taken to hospital.

Yet, Flörsch suffered the most significant damage. After her high-speed crash, Flörsch was initially examined to be conscious, with stable vital signs but having a fractured spine. She was then taken to the hospital, where she underwent surgery.

Later that day, she tweeted an update for fans:

“Just wanted to let everybody know that I am fine but will be going into Surgery tomorrow [sic] morning. Thanks to the @fia and @hwaag_official @MercedesAMGF1 who are taking great care of me. Thanks to everybody for the Supporting messages. Update soon.”

Her 10-hour surgery was successful, with her race team leader reporting there was “no fear of paralysis.”

In December 2018, Flörsch was confirmed to be racing again in the Formula European Masters set to begin in 2019.

  • Andreas Perez

At the Junior World Championships, 14-year-old Andreas Perez suffered one of the worst crashes in automobile racing.

Perez was part of the Reale Avintia Racing Team and had impressed the year before at the European Talent Cup. Having claimed two wins and several other podium finishes, Perez ended 2017 fourth in the rider standings. Following this, he moved to the Moto3 Junior World Championship, where he faced the last race of his life.

On the second day of the Junior World Championships, Perez got caught up in an accident on Turn 5 of the circuit. The accident involved several riders, and once it occurred, the red flag was immediately shown.

Perez received medical treatment at the side of the track but was taken to the hospital quickly via helicopter.

He was diagnosed with brain damage and, unfortunately, was pronounced brain dead the next day.

Reale Avintia Racing, Perez’s team, posted this update on their website:

“Andreas Perez (was) admitted (to hospital) with very serious brain injuries and shortly after was diagnosed brain death. Although his heart kept beating and despite many efforts, finally the doctors could not do anything to save his life. Andreas has not been able to win this race. We have lost a great driver, but above all a great person and we will miss him very much. The team and all its sponsors want to convey all the support of the world and a lot of encouragement to the family of Andreas in these difficult times.”

Condolences poured in from Perez’s fellow racers. One of his teammates, Tito Rabat, tweeted: “Very sad about the loss of one of the youngest members of our team. Rest in peace, Andreas. My condolences to your family and friends.” Whilst, one of his rivals, Jorge Martin Almoguera, tweeted: “Rest in peace, ANDREAS! very unfair sometimes our sport taking a talent of 14 years! A lot of strength to the family!”

At such a young age, Andreas Perez’s death is one of the most tragic racing crashes of all time.

  • Anita Board

An even younger devastation comes in the form of 8-year-old Anita Board. Board was out driving a junior drag racing car around a track in Perth, Australia. She hoped to attain her license so she could compete in the sport.

You may think eight is extraordinarily young, but it is legal in Western Australia to race at this age. Board was in a car with a 30mph top speed. Unfortunately, however, her car crashed into a concrete barrier, and she died of her injuries.

Her father, Ian Board, wrote a Facebook post following his daughter’s death. In it, he paid tribute to his daughter and warned against significant change to the sport. He called the accident a “one-in-a-million event” to Australia’s ABC News and said they’d picked out the sport for their daughter since it is “the safest form of motorsport.” However, Ian Board did admit a few changes needed to be made.

Following Board’s death, Minister for Sport and Recreation at the time, Mick Murray, banned all drag racing across Western Australia whilst an investigation was made into Board’s death.

Anita Board’s young age and her hopes of becoming a competitive drag racer make this crash so devastating.

  • 1986 Portugal Rally

In 1986, the World Rally Championship was in its 14th season of the FIA. The second rally occurred in Portugal, where the fatal crash happened.

The crash was caused by Joaquim Santos losing control of his Ford RS200. His car launched into the crowd. Three spectators were killed, whilst over 30 others were injured.

After the crash, all of the factory team drivers withdrew. Therefore, the win for the rally went to an unknown driver, Joaquim Moutinho, who was from Portugal.

Though this was a tragedy, there was a sense that something like this could happen at the Portugal rally. This track was well-known for fans standing very close to the track. In some instances, fans actually stood on the tarmac. The drivers knew this fact, and it made many of them nervous.

Due to this crash, the famously dangerous Group B cars were removed from racing. An investigation learned that they were unsafe for the track and had been partly at fault for the tragedy.

At the time, the focus was on making rallying more popular, not on drivers and spectators’ safety. This was integral to the blame for the crash. Thankfully, this attitude began to change after the 1986 Portugal Rally at the World Rally Championship.

Have we seen a decline in motorsport accidents?

Though fatal crashes are a danger of motorsport, they are less common nowadays due to greater health and safety measures. Plus, with more innovation in car design, cars are much safer now. Whether that’s due to engine innovation, or structurally sound tyres like 4×4 mags, these crashes are more few and far between

Chef Makes Popcorn Salad With Mayonnaise, Carrots, Sugar & Lots Of Ingredients, Foodies React

We all love to have delicious food and nowadays we can watch many cooking shows on television which teach us to how to cook lip-smacking dishes but sometimes we also get to see several bizarre dishes being cooked in such shows. For example once a chef made a grape pizza and the Internet lost its cool.

Recently, a chef named Molly Yeh who is associated with Food Network prepared an unusual salad dish which she named as Crunchy Snap Pea Popcorn Salad. For making this dish, you first need to chop the vegetables  – carrots, watercress, shallots (onions), peas and celery leaves and then mix them. After this, you need to add cider vinegar, mayonnaise, sour cream, Dijon mustard and sugar to the vegetables. In the end, popcorn is added to the mixture and the dish is ready. Though popcorn is crunchy, it must have turned soggy after getting mixed with the vegetables and mayonnaise so it must have lost its taste.

The video was posted by the Food Network on Facebook:

While the majority of the social media users disliked the recipe, very few thought of giving it a try. Here are some selected reactions:

There is no denying the fact that it has become a trend to mix 4-5 vegetables and make the recipe look colourful which has been done in this dish as well but how does it taste? Well, only those people will know who try or dare to make it! I’m sure you would like to avoid it but if you actually give it a try, don’t forget to tell us how you found it.

“People Came Back From Abroad & Blamed Us,” AR Rahman On Impact Of ‘Swades’ & Ye Jo Des Song

Shah Rukh Khan, the Bollywood superstar, has given us many hit movies but there is one film which may not have performed well on the box-office yet it has certainly touched hearts of majority of the Indians. We are talking about Ashutosh Gowarikar directed “Swades” in which Shah Rukh played the character of Mohan Bhargava who used to work in NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), USA.

Mohan Bhargava came to India in order to search for his nanny but in the process, he came across the problems faced by the Indians and he decided to do something about those issues. However as time passed, Mohan fell in love with an Indian girl and also discovered his roots after which he chose to stay in his own country and work for its development.

The music “Swades” was given by A. R. Rahman and recently one of the songs of the movie entitled “Ye Jo Des” started trending on social media networks after it was sung by the members of the US Navy band at an event.

During an interview, A. R. Rahman has talked about the film as well as the song and says that he feels it is an underrated movie. He further added that when the film got released, people literally pulled Gowarikar and every other person associated with the movie down.

He is of the opinion that there are very few movies that have made an impact on the lives of people and “Swades” is one of them though at that time, the flick didn’t get the response that it deserved despite the fact that the script was great and Shah Rukh played his character like a genius.

A. R. Rahman also talked about the song “Ye Jo Des” and the impact that it created whether it was sung in Hindi or in Tamil language. Rahman said that this song used to be a highlight of the concerts because it touched the heart as it was the soul of the movie. Rahman further said that many people returned to India from Europe, Australia and USA and blamed us for making them return to India.

It’s not just a song but emotion, agree?

Chris Morris’ Million Dollar Reaction After Sanju Samson Denies Him A Single Sparks Meme Fest

The thrilling encounter that took place between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings yesterday at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, has left everyone excited and craving for more sensational cricket as more than 400 runs were scored in the total 40 overs and the match was alive till the last ball.

Batting first, PKBS put up a pretty huge score of 221 runs at the loss of 6 wickets with the help of skipper KL Rahul’s 91 runs and he was well supported by Chris Gayle who scored 40 runs but it was smashing innings of Deepak Hooda that made fans go crazy as he completed his half century in just 20 balls.

On the other hand, the RR skipper Sanju Samson led from the front and played a beautiful innings of 119 runs with which he has become the first batsman to score a century in the IPL on the debut of captaincy. The Rajasthan franchise appointed Sanju Samson after they released the former skipper Steve Smith ahead of the IPL 2021 auctions. PKBS bowler Arshdeep Singh also needs to be praised for his wonderful bowling in the death overs, especially the last over of the match.

On the last two balls of the Rajasthan innings, the team needed 5 runs to win with Sanju Samson and Chris Morris on the crease.  Sanju Samson played a shot on Arshdeep’s delivery and Chris Morris ran from the non-striker end to take a run but Sanju Samson sent him back as he wanted to keep the strike for hitting a six on the last ball of the over. However, things didn’t go as planned and Sanju Samson got caught on while trying to hit the maximum as a result of which RR lost the match by 4 runs.

As the match got over, the South African cricketer Chris Morris started trending on the social media networks because of the look that he gave after Sanju Samson refused to take run and sent him back on the fifth ball of the last over. What made netizens laugh harder was the fact that Chris Morris was bought for a huge amount of Rs. 16.25 crores which made him the highest paid cricketer in the history of the IPL.

Amit Sadh Slams Celebs Who Post Vacation Pics During COVID-19 Pandemic, Calls Them Insensitive

The coronavirus pandemic is not over yet, in fact it is getting more harmful and destructive as the second wave is spreading faster than the first one and the virus has become more lethal this time because of the new variants that it has developed. The situation in many states is quite worrisome and night curfew, lockdown and some other restrictions have been imposed by the state governments to stop the spread of the virus. However, all these steps haven’t provided expected results and in some states such as New Delhi, Maharashtra, etc., a complete lockdown seems to be inevitable.

Representational Image

Nevertheless even in such critical times, there have been some celebs who are enjoying their vacations in Maldives and other places and posting photos and videos in order to keep their fans updated. The actor Amit Sadh appears to be pretty unhappy with these celebs as he has taken a jibe at those celebrities and also called them insensitive.

In his recent social media post, Amit Sadh reveals that he is going offline because he feels that his gym posts and other silly posts are of no help to people as the Mumbai city, state of Maharashtra and the entire country are going through a tough phase.

Amit Sadh further writes that he is not targeting anyone but he is of the opinion that the best way to be sensitive in such scenario is to pray and just hope that things get back to normal soon. He also adds that privileged people should help those who earn less and the daily wage earners as in such a situation, poor people suffer the most. He also states that he will keep on doing what is necessary such as following all the safety precautions. He also tells his fans that he will only stop posting on social media handles and they can still contact him by messaging him whenever they want.

Here is his complete post:

During an interview, Amit Sadh says that the profiles of some celebs are very much different from the reality. He also adds that they should act a little sensitive and stop rubbing their privileges on the faces of those who are suffering at the moment.

He cites the example of Hollywood actor Brad Pitt and asks whether he has told the world that on which exotic island he is spending time. Amit says that there is so much sorrow all around and then he expresses his sense of surprise as to how a person can act as if nothing has happened just because he has not been affected at all. He concludes by saying that he has been wishing to say this for some time now as everything seems to be fake and there is no space for simplicity.

The actor has talked about quite sensible things! Do you agree with him?
