Rishabh Pant may have been on the radar of everyone for his poor keeping behind the wickets but people have to agree that he is the one who brought smile on the faces of the Indian cricketers who were having tough time on the field as the England skipper was looking unstoppable. First time Pant made everyone laugh with his comment which was related to his teammate Washington Sundar and on the second day again, he did something which resulted in him trending on social networking sites.
During the England innings, Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a full-toss to Ollie Pope which the batsman was not able to connect properly. The ball went behind the wickets in air and Rohit Sharma who was on the slip ran to collect the ball. However, Rishabh Pant thought that the ball would land near the wickets so he ran towards the wicket which was completely opposite to where the ball went.
The wicketkeeper was also heard saying that he didn’t see where the ball went, everyone on the field was seen having a laugh because of this incident. Even commentators were amused to see Pant running opposite towards the direction of the ball and the video of this incident was also shared on the social media networks which went viral immediately.

While Rishabh Pant was slammed for his poor keeping as he missed an easy stumping of Jack Leach on the bowling of R Ashwin, he went on to become the highest scorer for India with 91 runs as India was 257/6 at the end of the Day 3. It’s quite unfortunate for Pant that he again missed his century but his poor keeping has once again started the debate that Wriddhiman Saha should be included in the squad as specialist wicketkeeper while Pant should be included as a specialist batsman.
That was quite funny of Pant’s part! What do you say?

Rishabh Pant, the young Indian cricketer, has proved himself as a good batsman time and again and recently on the tour of Australia as well but his wicket-keeping has always been under the scanner. There is no denying the fact that the responsibility on the shoulders of Rishabh Pant is huge as he is expected to replace the former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni who is certainly one of the best wicket-keepers of the world.
In the ongoing Chennai test match which is being played between India and England, the young wicket-keeper made such a silly mistake that once again netizens are demanding that Wriddhiman Saha should be brought back in the team as the specialist keeper. However, Rishabh Pant is in good form at the moment and the Indian team can’t afford to make him sit outside and even playing him as a specialist batsman seems illogical.
On the second day of the test match, the Australian batsman Jack Leach went out of the crease to hit a shot on the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin but the ball turned and Leach missed it. Rishabh Pant had all the time in the world to collect the ball and get Jack Leach stumped out but he was not able to collect the ball in a proper manner and Ashwin’s reaction was more than enough to know how frustrated he was.
It is known to everyone that the pitch at Chepauk Stadium will turn a lot as the match progresses and in such a scenario, keeping the wickets on spin bowling is not going to be an easy task. Earlier Rishabh Pant dropped a catch of Rory Burns on the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah as the catch was pretty tough and Rory Burns got out soon, so not much is being said about the dropped catch but this stumping was quite an easy one.
After the English innings got over, R Ashwin was seen having a chat with Rishabh Pant:
Soon Twitterati also started giving their opinion on Pant’s wicket-keeping and here are some of the selected reactions:

As far as the Indian batting is concerned, Rishabh Pant has once again come to the rescue of his team by scoring 91 runs before getting out. Till the time this article was written, India’s score was 235/6 with Washington Sundar (17) and R Ashwin (6) on the crease.

The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is not happy with the Australian cricketers and called them brats for putting the blame on the head coach Justin Langer for the loss against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian team won the 4-match test series by 2-1 despite the fact that it was pretty less experienced and young team in comparison to the star-studded Australian team.
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli returned to India after the first test match which India lost by 8 wickets and Mohammad Shami was ruled out of the series after the first test match due to fracture in his arm. Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma were already injured and they were getting rehabilitated at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.
As the series progressed, the injuries in the Indian camp kept on increasing and even Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Hanuma Vihari were also ruled out of the fourth test match which was played at Gabba, Brisbane. The Aussies were pretty confident of winning at Gabba as they were invincible over there for nearly 32 years but the Indians breached Gabba and registered a historic win.
As per a report published in a leading Australian newspaper, the Australian players are quite unhappy with the functioning style of Justin Langer, especially his mood swings and intensity. According to the article, the players were living in the bio-bubble for months and what made it more difficult for them was too much of micro-management by the Australian head coach. It is also being written that during the third and the fourth test matches, the Aussie head coach used a lot of stats and gave them a lot of instructions which made the players quite frustrated.
The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has shown his support for the Aussie head coach and written in a column for a newspaper that whatever leaks are being made to media by the Australian players or their managers are actually portraying them as brats. He adds that the Aussie players are not able to accept that they have been outplayed by the Indian team and this is why they are putting blame on their head coach. Sunil Gavaskar calls the reports blaming Justin Langer as rubbish and says that once the players are on the field, the coach is not in a position to do anything and it all depends on the players as to how they tackle the opposition.
Sunil Gavaskar also writes that the Aussie head coach and the advisory group can be blamed for one thing and that is the decision to bat first in Melbourne which backfired as the Indian bowlers got them all out for just 195 and in the second innings also, the Aussies were not able to score more than 200. Gavaskar is of the opinion that if Justin Langer is the one who advised Tim Paine to bat first at MCG, then only Langer can be blamed otherwise there is nothing more for which Langer can be held responsible for the defeat by the Aussies.
What is your take in this regard? Do you agree with Sunil Gavaskar or do you support the Australian players here? Let us know your views.

The skipper of the England cricket team, Joe Root has certainly made history by hitting a double century in his 100th test match as it makes him the first cricketer to score a double ton in his 100th test. Joe Root played a beautiful innings of 218 runs in the first test match against India before getting out on the bowling of Shahbaz Nadeem. It seems that Joe Root has started batting in India from where he left in Sri Lanka as in the 2-match test series against Sri Lanka, he scored a century and a double century and led his team from the front in the series which England won by 2-0.
The double century that Joe Root scored at the Chepauk stadium was his fifth of the career and third after becoming the captain. Root’s spectacular innings gave a chance to the former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff to take a dig at the legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan in regard to the tweet which Big B made five years back.
Just like any other ardent fan of the game, Amitabh Bachchan also expresses his happiness on the micro-blogging site Twitter whenever team India performs well or wins the game and he also doesn’t mind getting indulged in a banter with other social media users. In the 2016 ICC World Cup, Virat Kohli played a superb knock in the match against Australia and this helped the Indian team in securing their berth in the semi-finals. At that time, Andrew Flintoff made a tweet in which he wrote that at this rate, Virat Kohli would be as good as Joe Root one day.
This is what Flintoff tweeted, “At this rate @imVkohli will be as good as @root66 one day ! Not sure who @englandcricket will meet in the final now!”
This didn’t go well with the veteran Bollywood actor and he responded with, “@flintoff11 @imVkohli @root66 @englandcricket Root who? जड़ से उखाड़ देंगे Root ko..!!! (Who Root? Will uproot Root…)”
Now after the superb performance of Joe Root in the first test match of the 4-match test series, Andrew Flintoff didn’t miss the chance of having some fun. He took a dig at the “Sholay” actor by sharing the old tweet and captioned it with, “With the greatest respect, this aged well”.
Well, Big B will certainly like to give it back to Andrew Flintoff but the Indians don’t seem to be in good position in the first test match as India’s score at the moment is 172/4. What makes matter worse is that Virat Kohli (11) and Rohit Sharma (6) are back in pavilion and now a lot depends on Cheteshwar Pujara (57) and Rishabh Pant (68) who are the crease at the moment.

Joe Root, the skipper of the England cricket team, has played a beautiful innings of 218 runs and helped his team in scoring a huge total of 555/8 by the end of the second day of the first test match against India. There is no denying the fact that the pitch of Chepauk Stadium will turn a lot as the match progresses and the English spinners may use it for their benefit; however, the Indians are known as good players of spin.
Joe Root is playing his 100th test match and the manner in which he is playing, it won’t be wrong to say that he is continuing from where he left in Sri Lanka where his team won the 2 match test series by 2-0. However, it is not easy to adjust in the Indian conditions and the England skipper also experienced a cramp on the first day of the test match.
But what caught everybody’s attention was that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli helped his England counterpart by helping him in stretching exercises before his team physio came on the ground.
The English skipper was all praises for Virat Kohli in the virtual press conference as he said that it was a good example of sportsmanship from Virat and it was really kind of him that he helped. Joe Root realized that he needed to take more fluids which he didn’t do on the first day but he also said that he would compensate for it by eating and resting well in the night. Talking about the first day, he said that it was a nice day as the breeze was flowing and he was trying to adjust with the surface and the bounce. As per him, the longer the batsman stays on the pitch, the easier it becomes for him to bat and he strongly believes that the best hundred is the next one.
Let’s see how the Indian batsmen will respond to the huge score made by the England cricket team.
Kudos to Virat Kohli for the beautiful & heart-winning gesture!

The first test match between India and England has reached at a very interesting point because England has put up a huge score of 555/8 on the board by the end of the day 2 and England batsmen Dom Bess (28) and Jack Leach (6) are still on the crease. It won’t be wrong to say that both the days belonged to the English skipper Joe Root who continued with his good form and scored a double century. Joe Root played beautifully on the Sri Lankan tour as well where the two-match series was won by England by 2-0.
For India, the day one was quite frustrating as the English skipper Joe Root strengthened the innings with Dom Sibley and then with Ben Stokes and he himself completed his century by the end of the day. When it was getting quite frustrating for the bowlers, the Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant used his wittiness and sense of humour for cheering up the Indian cricketers.
In the third session, during the 70th over of the innings, Dom Sibley defended a delivery bowled by Washington Sundar. The Indian wicketkeeper brought smile on the faces of Indian cricketers by saying, “Mera naam hai Washington, mereko jana hai DC (My name is Washington and I have to go to DC)”.

As far as the Indian bowlers are concerned, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Shahbaz Nadeem and Ravichandran Ashwin – all four have managed to take 2 wickets each.
With more than 550 runs on the board in the first test match, the English team has certainly shown their batting power and has managed to put themselves in a position from where the chances of them losing the match are pretty less. Now a lot will depend on the Indian batsmen and hopefully they will also prove themselves at this slow and turning pitch.
