The women may have lagged behind in the Indian society for a long time but now we are witnessing a considerable change as many women are coming forward and proving themselves by doing the jobs which were once considered suitable only for males. However still a lot needs to be done in this case and we need more women participation in almost all the sectors. Though women are still thought to be the weaker gender of the two, we can be proud of the fact that the Indian women have served as the Prime Minister and the President as well in the past. The present finance minister of the country is also a woman, Nirmala Sitharaman who presented the Union Budget 2021 yesterday.
The finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented her third budget which is also the first paperless budget as it is not printed and is available in digital mode only. She made some very important announcements including the scrapping of income tax for senior citizens under some conditions and boosting the healthcare and infrastructure sectors by allocating good amount for them. Not only this, she also announced a new vehicle scrap policy to boost the automobile sector.
After presenting the budget in the Parliament, the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with her team interacted with the media in the post budget press conference.
This conference was streamed live on the YouTube channel of Press Information Bureau and during this conference, an incident happened in which the finance minister came to the rescue of a female journalist and garnered huge appreciation on the social media networks.
When female journalist from Economic Times who has been identified as Gulveen started asking question by saying that she had two questions to ask, she was interrupted by Nirmala Sitharaman’s colleague who told her to ask only one as there were others as well. This did not go well with the finance minister and she immediately asked her colleague why he was stopping her as he didn’t stop the guys. As per the reports, few reporters had asked more than one question even before Gulveen got the chance to ask a question.
This act of finance minister was appreciated by the other journalists and Gulveen also thanked her before asking her question. Social media users also praised the finance minister for raising her voice for a female journalist and here are some of the selected reactions:
Kudos to Nirmala Sitharaman!

The cricket lovers are going to witness a wonderful competition between the Indian cricket team and the England squad in the four match test series starting Feb 5. Both the teams are high on confidence as India has returned from Australia after defeating them in the four-match test series by 2-1 and England has also came to India post winning against Sri Lanka in two-match test series by 2-0 at their home.
However, the former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen feels that one thing that will make headlines throughout the series is Virat Kohli taking charge of captaincy from Ajinkya Rahane who has made history as team India defeated the Aussies under his leadership.
While speaking on a sports show, KP says that Virat Kohli first being a captain in Australia and then coming back and then taking captaincy from Ajinkya Rahane against England will be an interesting dynamic and it will be talked about throughout the series, especially because Rahane has performed so well in Australia.
On the question of picking up his favourites, Pietersen says it is definitely India because they have a great experience at home and Virat Kohli is also coming back in the team. He further adds that the Indians are 100 percent favourites and England is also not playing its best team in order to give rest to its players, at least they are not starting the series with their best team.
When he was asked to pick one player to look for, he said that there are many superstars in both the teams so it will be difficult for him to pick one player but he is sure that it is going to be a great contest on slow wickets between two good teams.
So are you excited for the big clash between India and England?

The International cricket is going on full swing and Australia’s premier T20 league Big Bash League is also providing a lot of entertainment to the cricket lovers. We have seen many strange things happening on the cricket field; for example, fans breaching the security to meet their favourite cricketer, dog running in the middle of the field, girls showing placards on which they express their love for a cricketer and so on. However, recently something so weird happened during a match in the Big Bash League that nobody was able to believe their eyes.
Usman Khawaja, the 34 years old Australian cricketer, who is presently playing in the BBL for Sydney Thunder did something which gave a rude to shock to not just cricket lovers but also former cricketers and commentators. During a match between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat which was taking place in Canberra, in the eighth over of the first innings, Usman had to change his abdomen guard and quite surprisingly, he didn’t do it in the dressing room but on the field.
The video of Usman Khawaja removing his shoes, pads and undressing for changing his abdomen guard went viral for obvious reasons. Cricket Australia tweeted the video with caption, “Wardrobe malfunction! #BBL10”
Soon the micro-blogging site flooded with reactions over the incident; while some said that the umpire should have objected to it, several others had fun on it. Check out some of the hilarious tweets:

In the older times, we used to mug up the phone numbers of those whom we used to call frequently and wrote down the numbers of others in a diary which we used to keep with us. However with the advent of smartphones, it has become very easy for us to save the phone numbers of as many people as we want. The smartphones have made us smart as well because now we don’t need to remember any number as we can easily dial the number by searching the name in the contact list.
Representational Image
But everyone has his own style of saving the numbers as some people like to save the number by writing the full name while several others write only first name and there are few who save phone numbers by the nickname.
Recently, the writer Jennifer Wortman has made a tweet that her hubby has saved her contact in her phone with her full name. Her tweet read, “Today I discovered my husband has me in his phone as “Jennifer Wortman.”
Soon other Twitter users started telling about the nicknames used by their loved ones for saving the phone numbers and you would not want to miss these hilarious tweets:

The year 2020 was a very challenging one for the whole world but there are always some positives to take even from a crisis and one of the positives of 2020 was the emphasis laid by the Indian government on Aatmanirbharta which means self-reliance. During his addresses on television, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about being vocal for the local which means supporting the local businesses which will help the country in becoming self-reliant.
Now the Oxford Languages has named this word “Aatmanirbharta” as the Hindi word of the year 2020 and the panel which selected this word included language experts – Kritika Agrawal, Poonam Nigam Sahay and Imogen Foxell.
A statement was issued by the Oxford Languages in which it talked about the times when PM Modi used this word and spoke about the importance of becoming self-reliant so that the country can face the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. The statement further said that after being used by the PM, there was a huge increase in the usage of this word and it gained a lot of importance in the public domain.
The biggest examples of Aatmanirbhar Bharat Campaign are the PPE Kits and vaccine for COVID-19. When the pandemic made its way in India, the country had to depend on the imports of PPE kits as it was not able to manufacture them but now India has not only attained sufficiency in regard to PPE kits but it has also become the second biggest exporter of PPE kits in the world. There was no vaccine for COVID-19 earlier but now India is not just vaccinating its citizens but also providing vaccine to many other countries and that too, free of cost.
Sivaramakrishnan Venkateswaran, the managing director of Oxford University Press India, stated that the word Aatmanirbharta found a connect with many Indians as it worked as an answer to the difficulties which they faced due to the pandemic.
Kritika Agrawal said that Aatmanirbharta got selected because it gave voice to the courage shown by the old and the young who dealt with the problems like loss of job, isolation, no family support, etc. in the times of pandemic.

Ajinkya Rahane has become one of the favourite cricketers of many Indian cricket lovers after the Australian tour as it was under his leadership that India won the 4-match test series by 2-1. There is no denying the fact that the Aussies were quite strong in comparison to the Indian team as the skipper Virat Kohli returned to India after the first test match which India lost badly by 8 wickets. It was then that Ajinkya Rahane led the squad and the Indian side not only won the Melbourne and Brisbane test match but also saved the Sydney test match by ending it in a draw.
Recently, Ajinkya Rahane revealed the precious advice that he received from the legendary Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid who is certainly the person responsible for decreasing the difference between the Ranji Trophy and team India. Rahul Dravid nurtured and trained the youngsters such as Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Mohammed Siraj, Hanuma Vihari, etc. and made sure that these youngsters got good international experience by playing for India A.
Ajinkya Rahane stated that before leaving for Australia from Dubai, he got a call from Rahul Dravid who advised him not to take any pressure of captaincy and also told him not to bat much in the net sessions.
While talking to Harsha Bhogle, Rahane said that while Dravid told him to be strong mentally and not to worry about anything as he would be leading the team after the first test match, what surprised him was the advice of not batting much in the nets as Rahul Dravid himself liked batting a lot.
As per him, Rahul Dravid said that he is well prepared and is batting well so he shouldn’t bat a lot in the nets and instead think how he would fulfill the role of captain and instill confidence in the team. Rahul also told Jinx not to worry about the result as well and Rahane accepted that Dravid’s advise was of great help to him.
Ajinkya Rahane led the team when the moods were really low after the humiliating defeat in the Adelaide test match in which India also score its lowest total of 36. Jinx also scored a century in the Melbourne test match which India won and leveled the series by 1-1.
