“Siraj Was Referred To As ‘Brown Dog’ & ‘Big Monkey’,” BCCI Source Opens Up On Racial Slurs At SCG

The Sydney test match between India and Australia will always be remembered for unfortunate incidents despite the fact that both the sides have played some really good and competitive cricket. Everything was going fine until the day three when the Indian cricketers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah reported to have been racially abused by a section of the Australian crowd. The Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane along with senior players had a chat with the on-field umpires and then a formal complaint was lodged with the match referee David Boon. The Indian team management has lodged an official complaint with the Cricket Australia and the International Cricket Council has also taken notice of the incident.

However, things turned dirtier when Mohammed Siraj was racially abused on the fourth day also and he not only reported about the incident but also pointed out the individuals who were abusing him. Those six individuals were immediately taken away by the New South Wales Police and it is being said that they are in the police custody.

A BCCI source revealed to a sports portal that Mohammed Siraj was constantly referred to as “Brown Dog” and “Big Monkey” by some people from the crowd and they were abusing Bumrah too. However, the players didn’t come up with the issue at that time because they didn’t want to spoil the game and lose focus. The matter was brought in notice of the umpires at the end of the day but the umpires advised that players should not wait and inform immediately if any such thing happens.

The Cricket Australia has condemned the incident and has also rendered an apology to the Indian team. Many former cricketers such as Michael Hussey, Shane Warne, Virender Sehwag, Bishan Singh Bedi, VVS Laxman, etc. have reacted on the matter and expressed their annoyance over the issue. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli who is on the paternity leave at the moment has reacted to the shameful incident in a couple of tweets and demanded strict action against those who are responsible.

There is no denying the fact that such incidents should not be tolerated in the game of cricket which is also called the gentlemen’s game and harsh punishment should be given to those who don’t respect the players.

“It’s Absolute Peak Of Rowdy Behaviour,” Virat Kohli Reacts To Racial Abuse Against Siraj & Bumrah

The India-Australia test series has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, earlier the Aussie media was going harsh on team India alleging that some players breached the bio-bubble protocol and then they were targeting the Indian squad because of their refusal to go to Brisbane until the quarantine rules are eased. Now, one more controversy has erupted which is not only harmful for the reputation of cricket but will also hamper the sports loving image of Australia.

On the third day of the test match, Indian players Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were racially abused by the Australian crowd when they were fielding during the Australian innings. They both reported about it to the skipper Ajinkya Rahane who along with senior players talked to the on-field umpires. The Indian team management filed an official complaint with the Cricket Australia and the International Cricket Council has also taken notice of the incident and asked CA to submit a report on this matter.

However, the issue turned more controversial on the day 4 as Mohammed Siraj faced racial slurs while he was fielding on the fine leg boundary. He immediately informed his skipper about it and also pointed out those who were involved in such a disgusting activity. Six spectators were then taken away from the stadium by the New South Wales Police.

CA and ICC both have condemned the incident and stated that there is no place for such discriminatory behaviour in the game of cricket. CA has also made an official apology to the Indian team for the unpleasant incident. Twitter has been flooded with reactions over the matter and now the Indian skipper Virat Kohli has also gives his opinion on the controversial episode.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, Virat writes that racial abuse is totally unacceptable and he has himself faced such pathetic situations many times while fielding on the boundary. According to him, it is really sad that such things are happening but they should be dealt with strictness so that things can be set straight for once.

In his two tweets, Virat wrote, “Racial abuse is absolutely unacceptable. Having gone through many incidents of really pathetic things said on the boundary Iines, this is the absolute peak of rowdy behaviour. It’s sad to see this happen on the field. The incident needs to be looked at with absolute urgency and seriousness and strict action against the offenders should set things straight for once.”

Let’s see what action is taken by the authorities in this regard.

Krunal Pandya Accused Of Abusing Deepak Hooda, Latter Withdrew Name From Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

The Indian Cricket is in full swing as the national team is busy playing the third test match against Australia and the domestic season has also started with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament in which total 38 teams are going to take part. The tournament has started today with Baroda and Uttarakhand of Elite Group clashing against each other in the first match and Baroda has emerged victorious as it has won the match by 5 wickets.

However, Baroda found itself surrounded by a controversy just 24 hours before its first match when Deepak Hooda who was named as the vice-captain of the Baroda team sent an email to the Baroda Cricket Association accusing skipper Krunal Pandya of abusing him because of which he withdrew his name from the tournament. A heated argument had taken place between Krunal and Deepak during the practice session at the Reliance Stadium, Vadodara. The matter has also been reported in the Gujarati new channels and it is being said that Deepak Hooda was under a lot of pressure after getting threatened by Krunal Pandya.

It was kind of obvious that Deepak Hooda’s name was not in the list of playing XI which played against Uttarakhand but his absence can be detrimental for Baroda in long run as he is pretty well experienced with 46 FC, 68 List A and 123 T20 matches and the in IPL 2020, Deepak Hooda played for Kings XI Punjab.

What is more surprising is the fact that Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya were known to be good teammates and exact reason for their fight is still unknown. This is not the first time that Krunal Pandya who plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL has attracted controversy. Earlier when he returned from Dubai after playing the IPL 2020, he was held by the customs because the authorities had doubt that he possessed undisclosed gold and other valuables. As per the reports, Krunal Pandya had valuables of more than Rs. 1 crore which he brought from Dubai but this much is not allowed as per the rules.

Krunal Pandya was grilled for nearly six hours and some of his valuables were seized as well. The Baroda skipper not only paid the penalty but also issued an apology citing that he was not aware of the rules.

Now the ball is in the court of BCA and it will be interesting to see what action they will take in regard to this controversy.

“I Have To Bat In The Manner I Know To Bat,” Pujara Responds To Criticism On His Slow Batting

The Indian cricket team needs to bat in a pretty good manner if they want to win or save the third test match as they need to score 309 runs on the final day of the match. A lot will depend on the skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara as Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant are injured and Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are already back in pavilion.

Cheteshwar Pujara was not able to score much runs in the first two test matches while in the third test match, he managed to touch the 50-mark but still he is being criticised by some people including the former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting who questioned the approach of Pujara while he was batting and he also felt that because of Pujara’s slow batting, his batting partners must have experienced extra pressure.

Here is what Ricky Ponting tweeted in response to a question he was asked, “I don’t think it was the right approach, I think he needed to be a bit more proactive with his scoring rate because I felt it was putting too much pressure on his batting partners”.

Pujara is getting targeted because of his slow batting as he took 174 balls to complete his half-century and this is his slowest fifty ever in the test match. Earlier he played 173 balls for a fifty in 2018 in the test match against South Africa in Johannesburg. What made people more angry was that he got out without adding more runs to his half-century and that too on the bowling of Pat Cummins.

A great contest is going on between Pujara and Pat Cummins and it won’t be wrong to say that the latter is winning at the moment. Cummins has taken Pujara’s wicket four times now in 129 balls that he has bowled to him and gave away only 19 runs.

Cheteshwar Pujara is not unfazed by the criticism and he has stated it clearly that he is going to bat the same way as he is doing now. According to him, everyone is trying their best and this time Pat Cummins has a better plan. He also adds that the delivery on which he got out was certainly the best ball of the series and any other batsman would have also failed in playing it. At one fell swoop, Pujara says that we also need to ensure that we bat well as a unit.

He further states that sometimes Cummins bowls unplayable deliveries and all the four deliveries on which he got out were really good ones. He goes on to say that he was confident while batting and as a batsman, he would like to focus on things which help him in scoring runs rather than making pressure on Cummins to get him out. He says that he needs to bat in the manner which he knows and make partnerships with other batsmen.

The former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has also come out in support of Pujara and said that he just can’t understand why the Indian player is getting slammed because first of all, he’s playing test cricket and secondly, he is facing good bowlers who are at the peak of their career.

Here’s what his tweet read, “Can’t understand people getting on the back of Pujara for his slow run rate. It is test cricket, he has come up against a quality pace attack who are arguably at the top of their careers. A knock of courage, patience, strong concentration. #INDvAUS #Cricket #playtoyourstrength”

Pujara was the player of the series when India won the test series by 2-1 against Australia in 2018 as he scored 521 runs and ended the series as the highest scorer but this time, he doesn’t seem to be in his best touch.

Hopefully the Indian batsmen will put up a good show on the last day.
