Back in the day, ‘Netflix and Chill’ wasn’t really an option. Times were simpler, and for us 90s kids, entertainment was mostly reserved to the tv shows on Doordarshan.

I distinctly remember coming back from school and watching some of these shows with my mother before she sent me to do my homework. Ah, those were the days.

As a tribute, we’ve come up with a list of 10 Doordarshan shows from the 90s, which make us nostalgic for the bygone days.

1. Chandrakanta

Believe it or not, we did have fantasy tv shows back then. And without a shred of doubt, this show directed by Sunil Agnihotri is way better than shows featuring women turning into makkhees. *rolls eyes*

2. Dekh Bhai Dekh

The perfect family drama, Dekh Bhai Dekh showed the many trivialities and nuances of the Diwan family over generations. This serial later went on to attain a cult status as well.

3. Byomkesh Bakshi

Before Byomkesh Bakshi became a sensation in cinema, Doordarshan aired this TV show in the early 90s, which was every kid’s guilty pleasure. It was pretty thrilling for us back then, mind you.

4. Shaktiman

Okay, you’d be lying if you say that you didn’t wait for school to end so that you could rush home just to watch Shaktiman whizzing over your TV screen.

5. Vikram Aur Betaal

Now a world famous meme, but back then, this was what dark comedy meant to us. Raja Vikramaditya and Betaal, his advisor, were quite a treat back then.

6. Shrimanji Shrimatiji

With actors like Reema Lagoo and Archana Puran Singh, Rakesh Bedi, this serial was a blast. Their comic timing was flawless, and it was the perfect show for us to watch with our family and share a laugh over.

7. Captain Vyom

Milind Soman may be a total hottie now, but he’ll always be Captain Vyom flying off into space for us. Every kid’s imagination ran wild with Captain Vyom’s adventures.

8. Udaan

Technically, Udaan ended in 1991, but this path breaking show deserved a spot in the list. Fighting gender discrimination back then? This deserves a round of applause.

9. Aarohan

A bunch of women who joined the Navy and their struggle to juggle professional and personal lives in an era when women were expected to stay at home and take care of children. Hats off.

10. Aurat

This show aired in the late 1990s, and starred Mandira Bedi in a leading role. The show was focused on women’s education, an issue still relevant today.

Sidharth Malhotra has finally broken his silence on his much talked about relationship with Alia Bhatt and in fact, you might even be able to relate to it.

Sidharth and Alia, as he said, have a lot of history together. The two were launched into the film industry together with Student Of The Year and sparks flew between the two on set.

It was around 2016 when rumours of them dating began to surface and neither Alia nor Sidharth went out of their way to deny the rumours either.

However, due to unknown reasons, the two of them parted ways roughly a year later and Alia is currently happy in her present relationship with Ranbir Kapoor.

Sidharth recently appeared on Koffee With Karan and he was asked about his equation with Alia. He said that he had not met her since they broke up.

He said that they had not contacted each other, but he feels that their relationship is not bitter. He feels that they have too much history in between them and he nurtures the fond memories he has with her.

When asked about why they broke up, Sidharth said that when two people break up, there are always reasons behind it. He said that there have been ups and downs, but now that they have walked away from it, he would like to hold on to only the good memories.

His words made it clear that due to certain reasons, Sidharth and Alia had moved apart and the best thing to do in the situation was to break up. But he also reveals that they are no negative feelings between the two.

Alia has never technically spoken up about her break up, and we would surely like to know her side of the story.

2018 was a year that the three Khans of Bollywood will like to forget as their movies from which fans had quite high expectations fared very poorly on the box-office.

While Shah Rukh Khan’s “Zero” was not able to pull audiences towards cinema halls, Aamir Khan’s “Thugs of Hindostan” was called a copied version of Hollywood movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” and bombed at the box-office. On the other hand, Salman Khan’s “Race 3” was also not liked by viewers but the actor himself neither seems to be in a mood to accept it nor wants to talk about it.

On the contrary, 2018 was very good for some young actors such as Vicky Kaushal, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao. Rajkummar’s flick “Stree” crossed the 100 crore mark and he has been appreciated for his performances in all the movies.

Recently, he was interviewed by PTI and when he was asked about the failure of films of the three Khans, he said that just because one of their movies didn’t work well on the box-office, no one can say that they are not good.

Rajkummar further praised them for the type of flicks all the three have done, adding that no comparison should be made between these superstars and new actors like him as the latter has a long way to go and prove himself.

He also said that the kind of craze that the fans have for the three Khans and the type of stardom that they have achieved is something that is impossible for any other actor to achieve now.

One of the most legendary car companies in India, Fiat, will soon be withdrawing from the Indian automobile market owing to issues with emissions compliance.

The brand at present offers these vehicles – Linea, Grand Punto, Avventura and Abarth Punt. However, these are not in compliance with the emission and safety rules to be implemented in the country.

While Fiat was undoubtedly one of the most popular car brands back in the day, it has ceased to be a car lover’s first choice.

In fact, the sales records show that Fiat has only sold about 101 units between December 2017 and November 2018. Such poor numbers could be another major reason behind the decision.

Also, Fiat refused to upgrade their existing vehicles, which would have complied with the new norms. Each of these vehicles have been in the market for a while, without any kind of new updates.

As far as competitive edge is concerned, these updates were deemed necessary. However, Fiat failed to do so. This leaves them with no choice but to pull the plug on Indian operations.

However, Fiat – Chrysler which was launched into the market in 2016 created quite a hue and cry and is expected to focus on the jeep market only.

It’s time to bid farewell to one of the most loved car brands in India. Goodbye, Fiat.

Some people are very particular about their names and they don’t like if someone misspells their name or call them by wrong name. We also feel that a person should be called by his/her correct name that is a person’s identity but sometimes mistakes do happen.

A student Jazmin Rojas got a little late in sending her study questions to her professor who likes to be called with his first name. She made a spelling mistake in the name of her professor Brian Fonken and wrote it ‘Brain’ instead of ‘Brian’ while sending the email; however, she got to realise it only after she received an epic reply from him.

After getting the reply, Jazmin took to Twitter and shared the screenshots of the two emails.

The first email shows the girl’s mistake in writing the professor’s name while in his reply, the professor has uploaded the photo of human brain in place of his name.

Ranveer Singh may now be married to the love of his life and he may be having his version of ‘happily ever after’ now, but once upon a time, he had been asked to choose between Anushka and Deepika.

The internet is a funny place, and you never know what may resurface again.

Back in 2013, Ranveer had appeared on Koffee With Karan with Arjun Kapoor and as we all know, the two are bets buddies off screen.

During the Rapid Fire round, Ranveer had been asked to rate the contemporary actresses on their sex appeal. In this question, Ranveer chose Deepika over Anushka.

However, when Ranveer was asked to rate the same actresses on the basis of their acting skills, he chose Anushka over Deepika.

Now, if memory serves you, 2013 was also when rumours of Deepika and Ranveer dating first surfaced. The two had worked together in Ram Leela and of course now we know, there can be no smoke without fire.

Nowadays, it is pretty common to see cricketers of different teams having friendly banter during the match and there is nothing wrong if it is done within the limits.

The Indian tour of Australia was full of incidents in which the players from both the teams didn’t miss a chance to make fun of each other. How can anyone forget the verbal duel that took place between Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and Australian captain Tim Paine? The babysitter comment is still very popular as ICC also used it for congratulating the Indian wicket keeper when he won the ICC award for Emerging Cricketer of the year.

However after Rishabh Pant, the Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella is also making sure that he troubles the Australian batsmen.

Australia has already won the first test match of the two test match series which was played at Brisbane. The hosts defeated the Sri Lankan team by an innings and 40 runs.

In the second test match also, the Australian team is in a strong position by scoring 534 runs while the Sri Lankan team was able to score only 219 runs in the first innings.

The second innings of Australia didn’t start well and they lost 3 wickets quickly for 37 runs only. Australian batsmen Usman Khawaja and Head were at the crease when Niroshan Dickwella started sledging Usman who was not in form with the bat. Usman’s average against India in the four test match series was 28.28 only and he didn’t perform well against Sri Lanka in the first test match as well.

Dickwella and Usman’s conversation was recorded by the stump mics. Here are the excerpts from the conversation:

Dickwella: “No runs under his belt, no runs under his belt. I only remember Marsh brothers here.”

Usman: “Do you want me to tell him (Kasun Rijitha) to take the bowling tape off his fingers? I can, but he won’t bowl anymore.”

Dickwella: “Are you that scared of his tape?”

Usman: “Nah, I’m just saying the sportsmanship goes both ways.”

Dickwella: “I really wish you could get some runs here. I don’t want you to feel bad after the series watching your team play on TV.”

In the above statement, Dickwella tried to put pressure on Usman by saying that he may be out of the team and watching his team playing on TV if he doesn’t score in this match.

This attempt of Dickwella to make Usman lose his focus went in vain as the batsman scored a half-century and Australia has already taken a lead of over 450 runs.
