This Friday we saw the release of two big films. Manikarnika- The Queen Of Jhansi and Thackeray were the two most anticipated films in the beginning of the year after Uri:The surgical strike.

One film has a strong female lead with historical setting and background. Whereas, Thackeray is a powerful biopic of none other than late Shiv Sena founder leader Bal Thackeray.

This epic clash will result in a phenomenal box office collection for both the films, as expected. After the release both are riding high, giving stiff competition to the other.

But, now Manikarnika- The Queen Of Jhansi, became the fifth highest opener,with Kangana Ranaut in the lead. It is overwhelming to see women driven films doing so well.

With female lead and directed by Kangana herself this film sure is made by woman. A film portraying the valour of a mighty woman warrior and queen is sure to draw appraisal and appreciation.

Though till now the top grosser is Veere Di Wedding with over ten crore. But, if you compare the film budgets, then Manikarnika is huge with ninety crore as its net investment.

In the top ten list of highest openers, with a female lead, there are no films by Deepika Padukone or Katrina Kaif though. We have Kareena Kapoor at the top, along with Priyanka Chopra in number three.

Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara is back in India after performing superbly against Australia in the recently concluded test series and now he is playing for his home team Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy. Pujara is in news once again but this time for all the wrong reasons.

During the ongoing semi-final match against Karnataka which is being played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Pujara was given not-out by the on-field umpire despite the fact that ball clearly edged bat and went into the hands of wicket-keeper.

It was Pujara’s birthday so people started saying that the on-field umpire gave him a gift but what didn’t go well with Twitterati was the fact that a senior player like Pujara didn’t walk out himself because it is quite impossible that he didn’t know that he is out. This incident took place in the 23^rd over when Saurashtra was 64/2, Pujara was on the personal score of just 1 run and the bowler was Abhimanyu Mithun. However, Pujara fell to the same bowler after scoring 45 runs which he made in 99 balls and at that time, his team’s score was 178.

Karnataka has scored only 275 runs and now Saurashtra seems to be in a good position but fans are criticising the cricketer for not walking out and also the umpire for not being able to make out the nick. Check out some of the selected reactions:

Since Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul appeared in the latest season of Koffee with Karan, controversy started brewing. Hardik Pandya’s sexist and misogynistic comments created quite a stir.

The famous chat show hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar, became talk of the town, when Hardik Pandya’s inappropriate comments on women was not well received by the netizens.

He was slammed mercilessly on the social media platforms, which prompted BCCI to ban them from playing any future matches indefinitely.

But, on Thursday The Committee of Administrators decided to lift off the ban from these two players. Both of them will soon join the Indian cricket team in New Zealand.

Indian cricketer and former skipper MS Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the best finishers of the game and his wicket-keeping has always been phenomenal. His experience and cricketing skills will be of great help for India in the upcoming World Cup despite the fact that the age is not on his side.

During the second ODI against New Zealand, he once again proved that it will be very difficult for the team management to find a replacement for MS Dhoni.

Ross Taylor was facing the first ball of the 18^th over which he missed and the ball went straight in the gloves of Dhoni; however, the senior cricketer saw that the batsman is short of the crease and he removed the bails with a lightning speed. The umpires referred the decision to the third umpire as it was very close to be judged by naked eyes. The decision came in India’s favor and not just the fans but the former cricketers were also left awestruck.

It is difficult to expect such impeccable wicket-keeping from the young cricketers which we are getting to see from Dhoni.

One of the hottest villains in Bollywood, Sonu Sood has frequently been in the news recently, for a number of reasons. His quitting Kangana’s Manikarnika was one of them.

However, turns out, he is in actual serious trouble this time. The BMC has slapped him with a legal notice for for not following norms while converting his Juhu residential building into a hotel.

Apparently, Sonu has been operating and running the lodging facilities without having received clearance from the BMC although he insists that he has not done anything illegal.

Officials at the BMC are of the opinion that Sonu Sood has ignored and neglected the norms and regulations that must be followed while running such a facility.

In June of last year, Sonu Sood had sent a proposal to the BMC asking for permission to convert his Shiv Sagar residential complex into a lodging facility.

However the BMC had sent back the initial proposal stating that Sonu would have to comply with all norms. They reportedly have not received a revised proposal since.

Yesterday we saw the release of two major films – Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thackeray and Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi. And clearly people had been waiting for these two films.

Despite the wedding season being on, the halls saw almost a 40 per cent occupancy in different cinema theatres around the country.

From the moment the dates of release of the two films were announced, we were sure that it would be Nawaz versus Kangana at the box office. And a ferocious battle at that.

Turns out, Kangana’s film beat Nawaz’s film by a massive margin as per the day 1 collections and the early estimates of the box office that have come in.

On the first day, Thackeray made 3 to 4 crores at the box office. This is huge considering the fact that the film is mostly targeted at a Maharashtrian audience and that it is a biopic. It is also one of Nawaz’s best openings so far.

However, Kangana proves that she is indeed the queen of Bollywood and beats Nawaz at this game. Her film earned approximately 12 to 13 crores at the box office on day 1, which makes it one of the highest opening day collections in 2019 so far.
