Cyclone Fani Live Updates: 6 People Died In Odisha, Kolkata Airport Will Be Shut Till Saturday Evening
Cyclone Fani is said to be the most critical cyclonic storm since the 1999 super cyclone. It is expected to make landfall is moving towards the people of the east coast.
The Met Department gave a warning of hefty rainfall and ferocious sea conditions. The wind is expected to be between 180 km per hour which can exceed to 200km per hour.
Approximately 1 million people have been evacuated to temporary shelters in Odisha. In Andhra Pradesh people as some houses were damaged by the rain and wind many people took shelters in Ichchapuram town of Srikakulam district.
The area along Puri Odisha is witnessing the strong winds with the velocity of high-speed 175km per hour. Parts of Puri and other places have been submerged with water as the heavy rains moved the entire coastal sea belt of the state. Hundreds of trees got uprooted, uprooted electricity poles and broken structures.
Along the Odisha coast, eleven districts are up on red alert. The Odisha government has rescued approximately 11 lakh people from the coastal region in the last 24 hours and give them shelter to camps in the higher altitude. About 5000 kitchens are operating to serve the people in the shelters. Around 14 districts in Odisha is in between the cyclone Fani.
Six people lost their lives to nature’s destruction.
After crossing Odisha cyclone Fani is moving towards West Bengal. Heavy rainfall is occurring in Kolkata and the other states of Bengal at present. As per the reports, Fani is supposed to hit Kolkata at 4 pm.
The weather department has declared Fani is 350km away from West Bengal and 380km away from Kolkata.
In West Bengal, districts of East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Birbhum, Bankura and North-South 24 Parganas.
Flights have been cancelled from Thursday midnight in Bhubaneswar and all the trains along the Odisha coast have been cancelled. Kolkata Airport will shut down from 3 pm today till 6 pm on Saturday more than 200 flights are expected to be cancelled.
The Navy, Air Force, Army and National Disaster Response Force and the Coast Guard are ready for service. Meanwhile, NDRF has already deployed 28 teams in Odisha and 6 teams in West Bengal.
The Fani Cyclone is set to be moving towards Bangladesh on Saturday evening.
All the fishermen have been warned not to go into the sea. Be safe try to help the needful people and do try to provide shelters to stray dogs and cats.
