This Politician Blamed Mumbaikars For Mumbai Bridge Collapse, Twitterati Slammed Her Online
On Thursday, when a footbridge collapsed at the CSMT railway station in Mumbai, several Mubaikars expressed their frustration and anger towards the current infrastructure which had failed to provide for basic maintenance.
The overall incumbency of the government and the BMC, the structural audits and the failure to ensure basic safety drew a lot of flak as several people lashed out on Twitter.
In fact, the collapse had far reaching effects as well since politicians from all over the country opened up a debate on the capabilities of the government in power and raised questions.
However, BJP Mumbai’s Sanju Verma, a chief spokesperson for the country, shocked audiences when she appeared for a debate on a leading news channel.
She called the bridge collapse a natural calamity, and shirked any responsibility on part of the government. Furthermore, she went on to comment that the pedestrians and the localities were at fault for the collapse.
This is downright outrageous, and simply sprinkles salt on the wounds of the affected and bereaved families. Netizens lashed out at her and completely tore her apart on Twitter:

The more crassness spokespersons like @Sanju_Verma_ show about this horrific tragedy, the more the BJP will alienate the citizens of Mumbai. This bridge collapse has shocked the city, but more shocking is the buck passing and this kind of shamelessness of the ruling establishment https://t.co/CZSzKWRJRS

THIS is what happens when you don't question your leadership.
(Any party, anywhere in the world)
It leads to this level of asinine arrogance. Even as people die @Sanju_Verma_ of the BJP says it's the people who are at fault

Someone please ask BJP spokesperson @Sanju_Verma_ to shut up on @TimesNow She is blaming pedestrians and common citizens for collapse of the bridge in Mumbai. Truly shameless comments. Anchor @navikakumar shut off her mike but she continues her obscene rant.

How can you be so insensitive, these are fellow Indians who have died due to poor infrastructure maintenance. People who take this lightly and make stupid statements should be given free medical treatment.
